Recently opened and a great hotel with well curated rooms and lovely staff, ideal for families and friends, is how I would describe The Monteleone. The hotel is centred on an old farm / medieval village and its surrounding buildings, which have been thoughtfully included into separate accommodation. The rooms in the main block are considered and contemporary: sleek, uncluttered, spacious and calming. Several have an additional single sofa bed - ideal for families with children. The fenced swimming pool is in a sunny spot and surrounded by loungers and bright orange pink brollies and a bar service is on offer with light snacks and sandwiches. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable - ready at any time to recommend an itinerary or book a local restaurant or experience - truffle hunting anyone.

The Monteleone is a great base for exploring Umbria and Tuscany with Orvieto and Perugia less than an hour away, Montepulciano and the breathtaking Val d'Orcia about the same - what's not to like. But what's even better is that the charming hilltop village of Monteleone d'Orvieto is 7 minutes walk where you can enjoy the delights of Seven Restaurant Cafe recommended by Stanley Tucci in Searching for Italy.

Why do people love staying at The Monteleone? Guests often tell us that staying at The Monteleone feels like pressing pause. They may come for the peaceful countryside, but what they remember most is the atmosphere: thoughtful design, genuine hospitality, and a slower rhythm of life.

Rather than offering endless facilities, we focus on creating a place where guests can truly reconnect, with themselves, with nature, and with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Long, leisurely breakfasts, quiet mornings by the pool, a glass of local wine at sunset, and unhurried conversations are all part of the experience. It's a place where doing less becomes the greatest luxury.

What is there to do in the area? The Monteleone enjoys a wonderful location on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, making it the perfect base for exploring some of central Italy's most beautiful towns. Città della Pieve, Orvieto, Cetona, Montepulciano, Pienza, and Cortona are all within easy driving distance.

Guests love discovering charming hilltop villages, visiting family-run wineries, browsing local antique markets, and exploring scenic hiking and cycling routes. The area is also rich in artisan workshops, offering an authentic glimpse into local craftsmanship.

Throughout the season, we organise a variety of experiences at The Monteleone, including wine tastings with local producers, outdoor Pilates sessions, and special breakfasts hosted by guest chefs. We will also soon be introducing open-air cinema evenings, allowing guests to enjoy classic films under the stars.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Each morning, we prepare a generous buffet featuring homemade cakes and pastries, local cheeses and cured meats, fresh seasonal fruit, eggs, yoghurt, and a selection of regional produce alongside a full A La Carte breakfast menu.

Whenever possible, we source our ingredients from nearby producers, and throughout the season we also host special breakfast collaborations with local chefs and artisans. These events celebrate the flavours, traditions, and exceptional ingredients of our region, making breakfast much more than simply the first meal of the day.

Do you offer other meals? Can you recommend good places to eat locally?

While we don't have our full dining service in place yet (this will be introduced at the end of September) we do offer a daytime menu, available from 12pm to 7pm, featuring delicious, freshly prepared dishes that guests can enjoy beneath the pergola or in the gardens.

In the evening, we're always happy to recommend some of our favourite local restaurants, from traditional Umbrian trattorias to contemporary fine dining. Because we know the area so well, our recommendations are always tailored to each guest's preferences, whether they're looking for a rustic family-run restaurant, an elegant dining experience, or somewhere popular with the locals. Some of our favourites include Seven, Poggiovalle, and Bruno Coppetta.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our Garden Suites and Deluxe Serra Suites are among our most sought-after room categories. Guests particularly love the Garden Suites for their spacious interiors and private outdoor terraces, which offer a wonderful sense of privacy and connection with nature. The Deluxe Serra Suites are equally popular thanks to their floor-to-ceiling windows, freestanding bathtubs, and seamless indoor-outdoor feel that brings the surrounding landscape into the room.

That said, every room at The Monteleone has its own distinct character and charm, so whichever category guests choose, they'll enjoy the same attention to detail and carefully considered design.

What facilities do you have for children, and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? Children are welcome at The Monteleone, and our Superior Plus rooms can accommodate an extra bed. Baby cots are also available on request, subject to availability, in some of our more spacious room categories for an additional €20 per night. For families, our Studio Suite is the most suitable option, thanks to its separate bedroom and living area.
