Anthology of Athens is a truly spectacular property in the heart of historical Athens (the Acropolis entrance is only five minutes’ walk away) yet only minutes from Monastiraki’s bustling streets. It’s a stunning five star experience that not only offers some of the best accommodation in town but also a stunning roof terrace with one of the best restaurants (and views!) you’ll find in the city.

This is a sleek modern property with an impressive glass walled entrance which leads to you the reception and concierge whose warm welcome is a sure sign of the levels of service to come.

The rooms here are everything you’d expect from a hotel of this standard. Think beautifully designed spaces that exude understated elegance with plenty of marble and a colour palette that perfectly reflects the view of the grassland and temples outside. All have a balcony (many with incredible temple views), and the best come with a private outdoor hot tub.

However, for many Anthology of Athens’ piece de resistance is the rooftop with its exceptional restaurant, The Botany. The dishes here are a reimagining of Greek classics, with a garden-inspired menu that champions sustainable ingredients, in particular herbs with all their wonderful restorative traits. The cooking is restrained yet seriously elegant and executed to perfection. Service is pretty good too…If the sun is still too high, don’t worry a cool baseball cap or beach hat (you choose!) magically appears to keep the fierce rays at bay (and you get to keep them too!). But what most people love up here are the unbeatable Acropolis views. They really don’t get much better, especially with a glass of something suitably chilled in your hand! Quite simply it’s dreamy.

For those looking for a less formal dining experience, head to the Peristyle Bistro which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Other hotel highlights include a spa suite (a space with steam room, massage room and relaxation area), rooftop pool, gym and library.

The vibe throughout is wonderfully friendly and relaxed. While you can sometimes feel a bit intimidated by the smartness and formal manners of five-star hotels, the Anthology is immediately disarming. It puts all guests at ease straight away, acting as a relaxed oasis in the heart of the bustling Greek capital.
