“This adults-only hotel of 16 rooms is in two beautifully renovated historic buildings in Zadar's old town. The classical exteriors are juxtaposed with stylish, contemporary design. Chic rooms are decorated in earthy hues and feature contemporary artworks and slick bathrooms. An undeniably cool spot.”

Hotel review

This hip adults-only boutique heritage hotel centres on a grand building from 1863. Here you'll find the informal reception area, nine guest rooms, plus the lovely Corte cafe-restaurant in a glazed conservatory, opening onto a leafy courtyard with outdoor tables. It's a lovely venue for breakfast and dinner, seated amid lush Mediterranean planting – pink bougainvillea and fragrant orange trees.

The stylish guest rooms in the main building have polished-concrete floors, big colourful oil paintings, and grey marble bathrooms with under-floor heating. Just a two-minute walk away, there are seven additional rooms in a dependence dating from 1914. These come with wooden parquet floors, set off against bold-coloured walls, velvet curtains, and quirky contemporary artworks. The Almayer prides itself in providing highly personalised service – at reception they can arrange guided tours of Zadar's old town, with its Roman forum, Romanesque churches and Venetian-era fortifications, and will help with transfers and car rental. They can also arrange excursions to Plitvice Lakes National Park with its spectacular waterfalls, and Kornati National Park, a timeless seascape speckled with rocky islets.
