Hotel review

Dating from 1971, this big modern hotel's most impressive feature is the lush front garden, landscaped in 2006, where spectacular free-form pools, complete with islets, cascades and slides, are rimmed by pergolas with sunbeds and parasols, set amid palms and olive trees. Kids absolutely love it, and it has an all-day bar-restaurant serving burgers, tortillas and drinks. Inside the hotel, there's a kids club too.

The guest rooms were renovated for 2026, giving them a light and airy summery look, in minimalist whites and beiges, with wooden floors. The best ones have balconies overlooking the garden and the bay. You get a generous buffet breakfast (and dinner too, for those on half-board) with a vast array of dishes. In the bay below the hotel there's a pebble beach with watersports facilities, and next to it the swanky Beach Club Hvar (reservations essential) with four-poster beds arranged along the quay, and waiter-service.  From here, I recommend the lovely 15-minute walk along the meandering coast to Hvar Town – a real gem, centring on a Venetian-era harbour packed with boats and yachts, while cobbled side streets reveal hip boutiques and restaurants, and the entire scene is presided over by a hilltop castle.
