“Overlooking the banks of the river Dee, Banchory Lodge is a true Scottish retreat. Elegant rooms, an atmospheric bar and an excellent restaurant all come together to form a superb hotel. A great spot for keen fisherfolk who can cast a fly from the bottom of the hotel's garden.”

Hotel Review

As the phrase goes, it's all about location, location, location, and at Banchory Lodge it doesn't get much better; situated in a quiet spot in the centre of town, right beside the River Dee. The property is a pretty Grade II listed Georgian house which has seen huge investment over the past five years, and the whole place exudes an easy, relaxed charm. Having undergone a complete refurb, privately owned Banchory Lodge offers twenty eight individually designed, smart rooms where you'll find modern, contemporary decor that sits comfortably beside a wealth of lovely period features and carefully chosen pieces of furniture. Think statement wallpapers, leather headboards, polished wooden floors and plush bathrooms with huge tubs and walk-in showers (depending on your room). Many have glorious river views, and some even boast a private terrace. But whether you opt for the entry level Comfy Room, or splash out on a Top Notch with Terrace, you'll find the same attention to detail throughout. The hub of the hotel is the bar with its amazing orginal oak bar (which came from Culloden House), which is busy not only with residents but a healthy number of locals too. Interiors here carry on the chic modern feel with comfy leather bar stools, leather banquettes and booth style areas. Double doors lead out to a spacious decked terrace with heaters and blankets for colder days and nights. The restaurant and bar both serve the same menu and the choices easily satisfy both fine-dining fans and those who prefer a more gastro-pubby cuisine. However this doesn't mean a drop in standards - the dishes are supremely well executed and absolutely delicious! If it's dinner with a view you'd like, then you have to book a table in the restaurant, with its fabulous river vistas and the same charming interior combination of traditional and contemporary. Breakfast won't disappoint either, the large a la carte menu is freshly prepared and full of traditional Scottish treats....porridge or kippers anyone? The staff here are friendly and efficient (obviously well trained), nothing is too much trouble. With so much to do in the surrounding area, Banchory Lodge is a winner whatever the season. It's in the heart of Royal Deeside where you'll find endless walking, cycling, golf, stalking and fishing close by, plus Art Galleries, stately homes....For a quiet country getaway amid stunning scenery, it doesn't get much better (and what's more if you've a four legged friend they're more than welcome too)!
