CitizenM is named in honour of the mobile citizens of the world who love the energetic high-tech style of this Dutch hotel brand. The vast lounge area, curated with super-cool furniture, books and modern art, blends with a lively bar and 24-hour canteen serving delicious Asian-inspired meals and snacks. Friendly ‘Ambassadors’ are on hand to help but service is generally hands off: touch-screen check-in, no room service and serve-yourself eating. Modular bedrooms are compact and identical, scrupulously clean and framed by a floor-to-ceiling window looking out across the city - a huge bed, rainshower, free wi-fi and free movies tick off the essentials. The TV, coloured ambient lighting, temperature and blinds are controlled by a bedside Mood Pad which appeals to technowizards but leaves other mere mortals longing for an old-fashioned remote.
