The hotel opened in January 2010 and likes to be thought of as a ‘lifestyle business hotel’. Located in redeveloped Quarry Bay, it is a fifteen-minute taxi ride from Central; those minutes make life cheaper but no less luxurious. The hotel’s panoramic harbour views are excellent; the swimming pool is enormous; and the design of the rooms, crisp, clever and, above all, comfortable. The mainly young staff wear designer T-shirts and trainers and seem to have been chosen for their decorative calibre, as well as friendliness and efficiency. A nod to environmental chic means that room service is delivered in a large white paper bag. More elegant dining in ‘Feast’ is highly recommended, its open kitchens a constant source of theatre. End the evening in ‘Sugar’, the top-floor nightclub.
