El MaPi manages to combine modern comfort with the laid-back atmosphere of Aguas Calientes really well. The location alone is the true highlight of this property- it’s right in the middle of everything, next to the river, and you can walk pretty much everywhere you need to go, whether that’s the buses up to Machu Picchu or the train station. It just makes the whole stay feel effortless from the start.

The rooms have huge beds, soft duvets, bathrobes, large windows and natural-scented toiletries. The turndown service with fresh local fruit is a small touch, but it stands out. Even though you’re in the centre of town, the views of the cloud forest and gardens give everything a surprisingly calm vibe.

The interiors are contemporary but still feel warm and inviting, especially in the common areas. The bar and restaurant are definite highlights, with a good mix of local dishes and drinks that don’t feel overly touristy. A daily '2 for 1' Happy Hour deal makes it easy to get comfortable and lose track of time in the bar or on the terrace.

The spa area is on the smaller side, but the pool and massage options are a nice bonus, especially after a long day's exploring. The staff are genuinely friendly and on top of things, so everything just runs smoothly and nothing feels like a hassle.
