Hotel Overview

“Hotel de Rome packs some major WOW! factor, from its imposing location on the historic Bebelplatz, to its strikingly bold Art Deco interior. Like most of Berlin this hotel is on a monumental scale – the building was the former HQ of the Dresdner Bank and has been imaginatively converted. The spa and full-length 20m pool are located in the old underground jewellery vault – appropriately sparkling with gold mosaics. A giant neon birdcage hangs from the glass atrium in the main lobby where you can sit and watch the international clientele from over-sized semi-circular black velvet corner sofas. For all its imposing stature this hotel is still family friendly – the miniature Hotel de Rome children’s breakfast bar is a fun touch in the main restaurant. Rocco Forte has a magic formula with hotels and this one is no exception. The staff are charming, efficient and clearly take great pride in their hotel. They genuinely seem to enjoy looking after the guests and even recognise you the next day! The bedrooms and bathrooms are high ceilinged and spacious, designed down to the very last detail by the talented Olga Polizzi, but they are not fussy or overdone. How many hotels have you been to where the bedroom slippers (his, hers and children) match the theme of the carpets? Clever! Dinner in La Banca is a treat but be prepared to pay for the privilege. Everything that is great about Berlin is within easy reach – the smart boutiques along Friedrichstrasse, beer and sausages, all of the key historical landmarks and the sobering Topography of Terror and Jewish memorial. Note: You will need to book the Reichstag if you want to see inside Norman Foster’s glass dome.
Highly recommended for a luxury mini-break.”

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
Hotel De Rome is a Rocco Forte Hotel - one of Berlin’s most intriguing and unique buildings. Once the headquarters of the Dresdner bank, there’s a fascinating history to discover within its walls. A swimming pool in the former jewel vault. A grand ballroom is the old cashier’s hall. Oak-panelled suites in the old bank director offices. Now a five-star hotel, it offers exceptional hospitality, flavoursome cuisine and first-rate facilities, located in the heart of the city - a winning combination of historic architecture and contemporary interior design

What is there to do in the area?
Hotel de Rome on Bebelplatz is perfectly located in the heart of Berlin and also within easy reach of Berlin’s key attractions- historical landmarks such as the Brandburg Gate, Alexanderplatz and the Reichstag, as well as cultural attractions including Museum Island and the Jewish Museum.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
International breakfast with lots of regional products.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
At La Banca Restaurant & Bar, authentic food is served all day in contemporary and relaxed surroundings. Local galleries exhibit on the walls, the best spaghetti al pomodoro in all of Berlin can be eaten in the beautiful La Banca Garden and aperitivo is served to the sounds of the resident DJ.
Head chef Jorg Behrend believes in natural, seasonal and local produce, fresh flavours and perfect preparation. His menu created for La Banca is composed of classic, Italian, sharing plates that can be eaten in a ‘family-style’.

Which are your most popular room types, and why?
Each of our 108 rooms and 37 suites are individually designed by Olga Polizzi and Tommaso Ziffer, comfortable and elegant with contemporary design. Our signature historic suites are definitively a highlight. They were the former offices of the bank directors.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ?
From the Berlin bear teddy in their room to our special Families R Forte passport, our Families R Forte Programme makes sure our junior guests are just as pampered as the grown-ups. And yes we can fit extra beds in our rooms, also we have connecting rooms for families.
