Tucked away in the centre of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, this charming Provençal house hides a little secret: a leafy garden scented with jasmine and shaded by olive trees, complete with a heated pool (open April to November). Le Petit Hotel opened in 2019 and yet is still relatively undiscovered; just the way we like it! Inside are 12 comfortable art déco bedrooms, including two suites and one accessible room. 

Breakfast is served from 8am until 10.30am, either outside on the terrace or by the pool, with delicious, local produce to start the day. Freshly baked cake, croissants and baguette are irresistible, and the fresh fruit salad is beautifully presented and includes fresh figs and berries. Add to that cheese, ham and eggs however you like them, and you're set for the day. There’s a small bar and reception open daily from 7am to 9pm, while massages and yoga can be arranged on request. Secure parking is available for a daily fee, and small dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (for a nightly fee).

There's a small shop, and the main square is just a short walk away, where the large and lively market is held every Wednesday. The Feria, in mid-August, is a celebration of Camargue culture and local traditions, including bullfighting events (without bloodshed, but not to everyone's taste), parades with horses and local produce, and various other festivities like live music and food. It's a very busy time, so either book early or avoid the middle of August. If you want to explore the area and take in Arles and Nîmes, a hire car is recommended, though Saint-Rémy is such a lovely town and Le Petit Hotel such a cute and stylish boutique hotel, you may find that the last thing you want to do is get in a car.
