Hotel Review

Situated on a pristine beach on Barbados's glamorous Platinum Coast, Lone Star has been a stalwart of the luxury, boutique hotel market for the last few decades. Its ethos is not so much providing hotel services to its clients, but rather a luxury retreat and respite from their everyday lives. The aim is to pamper and be on hand to satisfy any whim however large or small. The property was created from an old Texaco Station (hence the name) and it has retained the distinctive exterior, however inside the feel is sophisticated and chic. White on white interiors with hints of greys, blues and yellows. Exposed stone walls, spacious verandahs, muslin draped four posters. The hotel’s nautical theme runs from room to restaurant, offering a relaxed, Californian feel. There are nice little additional touches including complimentary drinks, snacks and toiletries - you have to try the house blend of Rum Punch and homemade cookies! All the elements come together to create a stunning Caribbean hideaway. With just four rooms/suites and two penthouses (named after classic American cars), Lone Star is an intimate space and one you're not likely to forget in a hurry! With its reputation as the "Ivy of the Caribbean" the food will not disappoint you either. The restaurant offers a mouthwatering menu with house specialities not to be missed, such as the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare or the Prawn Curry. The bar is also a regular haunt for many trendy island residents. Quite simply an unmissable stay on Barbados's Platinum Coast.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? The beauty of Lone Star is that it is less of a hotel, more of a personal sanctuary for every single guest. Because it’s a boutique hotel with only two penthouses, two suites and two deluxe garden rooms, it is intimate, exclusive and very personal to each guest. Each person that stays with us is reassured that the team caters to their every need, with a unique style of relaxed yet attentive service that can’t be found anywhere else. And there’s the added benefit that Lone Star has the only restaurant that sits directly on the beach; one of the most idyllic on the Caribbean.

What is there to do in the area? Eco Tours are becoming more and more popular. Visitors to the island can check out the local habitat on walking tours or take a bus tour. You’ll see amazing tropical beauties in the form of wildlife or visit an underground cave. At Lone Star, turtles live and visit the beach just outside the Hotel, giving guests the unique opportunity to admire these incredible creatures; although we discourage touching the turtles or disturbing their eggs. It may also be worth booking in a sunset sailing trip on one of the fabulous catamaran tours. Enjoy a swim in the sea, before dining as the sun goes down. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that lots of our guests enjoy. There’s also lots of historical tours and culture to experience, but one of the most popular tours are the rum experiences. Mount Gay is one we recommend, but there are number of distilleries to visit. Try them all!

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Breakfast is served from 8.30am-10.30am on the boardwalk, so our guests can enjoy a leisurely start to the day with a view of the famed platinum coast. The menu comprises a full English breakfast and the Lone Star Light which includes fresh fruit, muesli, yoghurt and honey. There’s the Lone Star Egg Collection where a variety of eggs can be cooked to order, with delicious side orders and of course tea and coffee and juices. We also serve a fabulous children’s breakfast menu including cereal and boiled eggs and soldiers!

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? There are no shortages of restaurants serving local Caribbean dishes, fish and European dishes. Here at The Lone Star our restaurant is renowned for its idyllic setting, buzzy yet laid-back atmosphere and celebrity clientele. The menu combines fusion fare with Caribbean influences and there are also wood-fired pizzas. The new cocktail lounge is the ideal spot to gaze at the beautiful beach and, if you need a good spot for a meeting, this is the number one choice. There’s also a whole host of other choices including The Cliff which is listed as one of the best restaurants in the world, the interior, food and atmosphere certainly lives up to expectations here. Chef Paul Owens has created the most amazing menu and it’s the perfect place to take business guests – you’ll certainly wow them with the spectacular setting, cuisine and service. Definitely not to be missed. Alternatively try Cin Cin By The Sea - The ambience here is one of the best in Barbados. The menu is great and there are a fabulous range of dishes to choose from – you’ll find something here for every taste and it’s priced just right. Plus the live music is always good and there is a very cool bar for pre- and post-dinner drinks too – the perfect people-watching spot!

Each features a private terrace with uninterrupted views of the turquoise ocean. Corvette and Shelby are situated in the coral stone Beach house. Beautifully restored and upgraded featuring garden terraces and glimpses of the ocean. Both rooms have direct access to the beach. The Coral Stone Beach House sits in a prime location at Lone star and is ideal for a larger family or group travelling together. The beautiful coral stone house is spread over 3 floors, and comprises a spacious master suite with seating area, en-suite bathroom and private ocean view terrace, and 3 further luxury en-suite bedrooms.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? To keep the little ones busy, we have full facilities at the hotel and restaurant including colouring activity packs and information on the turtles that nest on the beach just outside the restaurant. For convenience, baby changing facilities are available on site and some our rooms have baths - for the essential pre-bedtime routine. Every luxury hotel in Barbados should offer the essential technology that keeps young adults connected. They will be relieved that the Lone Star Hotel in Barbados provides free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and Restaurant. Essential for those ‘on the beach selfie’ global distributions! The Lone Star restaurant has a great selection of food tailored to younger diners, and we are happy to assist with any specific requirements such as warming baby foods.
