This hillside former manor house enjoys a bewitching view over the wild, craggy western coast of Mallorca. The history of Pedrissa, once the property of Archbishop Ludwig Salvator of Austria, stretches back to the early 17th century, since when the house has been lovingly restored with an eye to the detail. Rooms have comfortable beds with turned mahogany posts, trousseau chests, stately cupboards with antique metal fittings – in other words, all the trappings of bourgeois wealth – and bathrooms with charming handmade tiles. The ancient olive press has been converted into a restaurant, where menus concentrate on regional specialties made with home-grown produce. A generous breakfast is served under shady pine trees.
