Hotel review

Opulent splendour awaits at this Moorish palace-turned-hotel, designed by renowned French architect Jacques Garcia (who renovated La Mamounia). Guests are greeted by the porter and ushered into the decadent, jewel-coloured interior with plush velvet and silk seating lit by impressive Venetian crystal chandeliers. Generously-sized, well appointed bedrooms are located along a striking, symmetrical infinity corridor, each room with a balcony overlooking the hotel’s Olympic-size pool. At 80 metres, it’s one of the longest pools in Africa. Dark marble art deco-style bathrooms are separated by a glass wall. Owned by the Benami Swires family, Selman was named after the line of Arabian thoroughbred Selman stallions that fill the stables. Diners at the hotel’s opulent Ottoman restaurant Assyl, serving delicious traditional Moroccan dishes, can witness the spectacular nightly evening horse show in the Andalusian Pavilion alongside two spellbinding bellydancers entertaining guests. Mediterranean-style food is found at La Terrasse - on the terrace or poolside - with a gastronomic menu curated by award-winning chef Jean François Piège. Lavish breakfasts cater for all tastes and will leave no one hungry: there’s an extensive buffet and plates to order including freshly-made pancakes and eggs of every kind. Service is top-notch, from moment of arrival to departure
