Hotel review

Rajasthani hospitality at its best, fortress-like Suryagarh knows how to show travellers to the Golden City a good time. All the size and amenities of a five-star hotel, with the attention to detail and personable service of a boutique property. Rooms range from pleasant to palatial, the best including their own private pools, but it's the food that really makes Suryagarh stand out from the rest. Epicurean multi-course menus showcase the best of the local cuisines, as well as having excellent Western options. Breakfast is a spread of freshly squeezed juices, eggs to order, pancakes, baker's baskets, masala dosas, the list goes on. All served al-fresco in a cavernous courtyard, to the tune of a classical flute player with the two resident donkeys (Romeo & Juliet) and Mr Peacock for company. You couldn't make it up. There's an all year round pool, well-equipped gym, enormous and utterly indulgent spa, organic vegetable gardens, plus acres and acres, of which to explore. A modern hotel championing old world hospitality in a spectacular desert setting.
