Hotel Overview

“Dating back to 1865, but inspired by the best of modern-day Scotland, this family-run hotel combines heritage good looks with warm, personal service and a fresh, contemporary look. The bedrooms and interiors throughout Dunstane House and public ares of Hampton House have been stylishly redesigned and pay tribute to the building’s neoclassical character and the owners’ Orcadian heritage, without compromising on modern comfort. Rooms come with Vispring beds, Egyptian cotton linens, Roberts digital radios and Nespresso coffee machines. Five suites with dramatic features such as four-poster beds, freestanding copper roll-top baths in the bedroom, or sweeping views over the Edinburgh cityscape.
The newly opened Ba’ Bar & Lounge specialises in food made with local, seasonal Scottish produce from small suppliers, and hosts relaxed but refined all-day dining, including daily afternoon tea. It offers a wide range of fine wines, craft beers, artisanal spirits and one of the most extensive rare-whisky selections in the city, with more than 70 varieties in its vintage wall cabinet.
Within easy reach of all the attractions of old-town Edinburgh, the Dunstane Houses is a stylish and welcoming city retreat with an authentic Scottish soul.”

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
The Dunstane is such a unique property in Edinburgh, situated over two Victorian mansion houses giving our guests the flexibility of room style, size and price. We cater for all types of people with our fabulous luxury four poster suites for a special romantic weekend away right down to our Petite Single rooms which are perfect for solo travellers on a budget.

What is there to do in the area?
The Dunstane is situated just a 5 minute walk from Murrayfield Stadium and the EICC so perfect for business and for International Rugby and concerts! We are a 15 minute walk from the City Centre so Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, George Street and all major attractions are just a short walk or short bus ride away. Edinburgh Zoo is 10 minutes away. Great location, quiet surroundings.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
The Dunstane breakfast is an event in itself. We have a huge continental buffet selection, showcasing the finest of Scottish produce from fresh Scottish natural yoghurt to Scottish cheeses, home made fruit compotes and freshly baked pastries. To follow we have a selection of hot dishes including Orkney Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg, Loch Fyne Kippers and the full Scottish Breakfast with local produce that will keep you going all day!

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
The Ba’ Bar & Lounge continues where breakfast leads - we use only the best Scottish produce, concentrating particularly on the local area and the Orkney isles where the owners of the hotel are from. We change our menu regularly and the chef is only too pleased to discuss individual requirements and likes. We make the most of dishes such as Orkney Salmon Fillet, East Lothian chicken, Orkney Rib Eye steak and Seafood chowder. There's something for everyone and it is one of Edinburgh's restaurants that is not to be missed.

Which are your most popular room types, and why
Our Luxury rooms are the most popular with our leisure guests as they do offer that extra special experience, with luxury bathrobes, Nespresso coffee machines, Tunnocks tea cakes and Noble Isle luxury toiletries. However, our deluxe rooms do offer plenty of space and goodies of their own! The business traveller needs nothing more than one of our Petite doubles, plenty of space for one and space to work and relax when away on business.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ?
Our deluxe rooms have fold away beds for children and we have travel cots available on request. Children can be accommodated in deluxe and luxury rooms with advance notice for the hotel.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
Staying at The Dunstane is one way to make your Edinburgh holiday unforgettable. Be greeted by our friendly and dedicated staff, relax and unwind in our individually designed Boutique bedrooms and enjoy a taste of Scotland in our Ba’ Bar & Lounge. There is something for everyone.”
