Hotel Overview

“Hidden behind its entrance, The Stafford occupies three sides of a charming 18th century cobbled courtyard in the heart of St James’s. The hotel’s 107 luxury rooms and suites are spread across the hotel’s different buildings, each with its own distinct feel. As a result, there’s something for every guest, from the Victorian rooms in the ‘Main House’ to opulent suites in ‘The Mews’ or the luxury three-storey ‘Gatehouse’. The delightful courtyard – with its striped awnings and outdoor dining – offers a remarkably calm, peaceful spot given this hotel’s central location. Enjoy seasonal British classics at The Game Bird restaurant, which opened in 2017, before sampling cocktails at the American Bar where walls and ceilings are decked out with quirky memorabilia. Beneath the hotel lies a 380-year-old wine cellar, which doubled up as an air raid shelter in the Second World War. The cellar plays homage to the hotel’s past with a tiny museum featuring wartime posters, newspapers and artefacts. A unique and atmospheric place to stay in London.”

See What They Say

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
Our guests love staying at The Stafford because of the relaxed sense of luxury, the warm welcome from each and every team member, our central but quiet location and the personal touches they receive throughout their stay.

What is there to do in the area?
If you’re looking to explore London, you couldn’t be better placed with a stay at The Stafford. The royal parks and palaces are on our doorstep and iconic landmarks such as The Houses of Parliament, London Eye and Piccadilly Circus are just minutes away. Mayfair and St James’s are famous for their boutiques and galleries and we always recommend our guests take a trip to the Royal Academy of Arts, stop by some of the smaller galleries dotted around the area or visit Jermyn Street, one of London’s oldest shopping streets famous for high quality British artistry and craftsmanship.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
Guests can choose to join us in The Game Bird restaurant or The American Bar for a full Continental or Full English breakfast. Alternatively, breakfast can be served in the comfort of your room or suite, in our private cobbled courtyard or ‘to go’, the choice is yours!

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
Our critically-acclaimed restaurant The Game Bird is open for all day dining, serving classic British dishes, while The American Bar serves a Mediterranean inspired menu throughout the day. If guests are looking to dine locally, our expert Concierge team are on hand to make recommendations and reservations during their stay.

Which are your most popular room types, and why?
It is difficult to choose one specific room type that would stand out as the most popular. The Stafford is made up of three unique buildings, each with its own design and character – The Main House, is a blend of Victorian grandeur and modern comfort, the Carriage House and The Gatehouse offer a unique, countryside ambiance in the heart of London, while The Mews Suites and Penthouse offer classic, contemporary elegance and the comfort and discretion of your own private residence at one of London’s most prestigious addresses. Our guests like to try all three before choosing their favourite!

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?
We have a number of rooms that can include extra beds as well as inter-connecting rooms and suites that provide more space for the family. Our Concierge have created a Children’s activity guide with their recommendations for activities for the family to enjoy around the capital and children’s menus are available in our restaurants.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
For a luxurious stay in London, soaking up the tradition and history of the Capital then The Stafford is the ideal choice. Spend the day exploring all the city has to offer before retreating to the quiet oasis of our private cobbled courtyard and relaxing with one of our signature cocktails!”
