“Luxury 5-star in the City, inspired by historic trading guilds. Bespoke rooms with contemporary design, some with Thames views. Mercer Roof Terrace offers British dining with St Paul's-to-Shard panoramas. Crown Afternoon Tea and DND prohibition bar. Steps from the Tube and St Paul's Cathedral.”

Hotel review

Near the Thames, the name nods to ‘Vintry’ for wine merchants and ‘Mercer’ for textile sellers. Ochre headboards, velvet curtains, and intimate rooms contain every luxury you could want. Staff are exceptional. Front desk navigate Tube closures without flinching, doormen whisk luggage with a smile, and everyone remembers your name.

Mercer Roof Terrace stretches from St Paul’s to The Shard, serving sustainably sourced British fare (go for steak and lobster). In winter, heated igloos and cabins offer twinkling city-light dining. The Crown Afternoon Tea is pure theatre: dim lights, charming music, wizard-themed desserts, and colour-changing potions.

Downstairs, DND basement bar channels retro Prohibition glamour with vintage cocktails, while breakfast is freshly cooked each morning. One block from the Tube, five minutes from St Paul’s, walking distance to Sky Garden. Church bells ring without regard for sleep schedules, but it’s part of the historic charm. Book a room with a bath, lest your complimentary rubber ducky gets lonely.
