Popular St Martin is a great choice for a Caribbean honeymoon, whether you’d like to spend your time celebrating, relaxing, or a mix of both. Part of the island’s great variety comes from St Martin being split in two: on the southern side is Dutch Sint Maarten — known for its lively cruise ship crowds, for its buzzy beach bars, and for its glamorous shopping; on the northern side is French Saint Martin, more tranquil, historic, and with serious foodie credentials. If you are looking for a tropical-island-escape-style honeymoon the northern beaches are a good place to start — many properties here are remotely located: historic plantations in the green hills turned boutique hotels, or beach huts lining the shore. Some of the most luxurious honeymoon resorts are on the southern coastline, between the buzzing capital, Philipsburg and Simpson’s Bay — which hosts many of the island’s casinos and night clubs. For those on a budget, St Martin has some great value, all inclusive resorts around historic Fort Amsterdam.
