About St Vincent and the Grenadines

St Vincent and the Grenadines are a combination of two very different sorts of islands: St Vincent itself, a typically lush and mountainous Windward island, and the Grenadines, a string of smaller, drier, lower islands including Bequia and Mustique, running down towards Grenada. When it comes to the best places to stay in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the smaller islands have more beach break style villas and hotels and St Vincent is loved by sailors.

Part of the reason for the Grenadines hosting more of the beach hotels is that they tend to have the finest, whitest, coral-based sands, while St Vincent's sand is dark and volcanic. But if you're not too fussed about the colour of your sand then St. Vincent's simple, pretty, West indian charms are certainly worth exploring.

The whole region is a playground for sailors, with numerous good harbours and several totally undeveloped desert islands - like the Tobago Cays, which also have a legendary status amongst divers and snorkellers. It's certainly worth doing a spot of island hopping if you can.

If you're not staying on St Vincent, then its volcanic peaks are certainly worth a visit, and Bequia and Canouan are some of the Grenadines most interesting beauties.

The Hotel Guru's pick of the best places to stay in St Vincent and the Grenadines range from chic, but brilliant value on Bequia to the private island luxury of Petit St Vincent.
