About Syros
Syros, in the Cyclades, is an Aegean island to the South East of Athens and is easily accessed by ferry and hydrofoil services which run daily from Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio. Ermoupoli, capital of the island (and the Cyclades) is a significant seaport. The town sits in a natural amphitheatre with neo-classical buildings and white mansions rolling down to the sea. Ermoupolis is not first and foremost a tourist town - there are shipyards here - so you may discover something of the ‘real Greece’. For sightseers, there is the Cathedral at Ano Syros, or a walk to the Holy Church of the Resurrection of Christ or you can simply sit at the Plateia Miaruli and watch the world go by. - If you're coming from abroad then fly into Athens International Airport before taking a connection on to Syros Airport.
- For the best weather visit during in the summer months, with the average temperature 27°C in July and August.
