About Tenby

What are the best hotels in Tenby?

Tenby is everything you want from a traditional Welsh seaside town: pastel-painted houses, a pretty harbour, long sandy beaches and winding little streets tucked behind medieval walls. There are artisan shops, cosy pubs and lots of places to stop for an ice cream after a day by the sea. The best places to stay range from friendly B&Bs to grand Victorian hotels and characterful country houses. Giltar Hotel is our pick of the bunch, with its lovely position overlooking South Beach, high-ceilinged rooms and classic period details that feel right at home in this old-fashioned seaside resort.

There’s heaps to do in Tenby without needing to go far. Spend the morning exploring the old town’s cobbled streets and shops, pop into St Mary’s Church or visit the Tudor Merchant’s House. The beaches are the big draw, whether you fancy a swim, a lazy afternoon or a stroll along the coast. For a change of scene, hop on a boat to Caldey Island to look out for seabirds and grey seals, or follow a stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for stunning sea views. Finish the day with fish and chips by the harbour or an ice cream on the seafront. Just bear in mind that Tenby gets very busy in July and August, so book your stay early if you’re coming in summer.

Travel Information

  • Pembrokeshire doesn’t have a big airport, it has a small one, Haverfordwest, which has very limited connections. So, if you’re flying you’re better off coming in to Cardiff Airport. Pembrokeshire doesn’t even have a motorway, and is served in a rather limited capacity by rail, with lines running to Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Fishguard. Tenby is connected by local rail to Swansea, Cardiff and Pembroke Dock, and in the summer months there are a few services from London, Paddington. You might consider arriving by ferry to, into Fishguard or Pembroke.
  • If you’re thinking about hiring a car we recommend checking what our online partners, Rentalcars have to offer.
  • Most visitors come to Pembrokeshire for the summer, which is sunnier and warm-ish, with temperatures in July and August hitting 19 or 20°C most days.
