About Salisbury

Salisbury is a famous cathedral city, picturesquely set in a sunken valley on the edge of the Salisbury Plain, in green Wiltshire countryside — just eight kilometres from Stonehenge. It's a pretty city of historic architecture, independent boutiques, gourmet restaurants and friendly pubs — indeed some of the best places to stay in Salisbury are historic inns turned pubs-with-rooms.

Salisbury cathedral is one of the leading examples of early English Gothic architecture, it’s got a spire 123 metres tall, and it’s home to one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta. Stonehenge is an incredible, mysterious prehistoric stone circle that’s impossible to properly get your head around without seeing in the flesh! The town also has an impressive museum, in the Grade I listed, King’s House, with a permanent collection of artefacts from Stonehenge. Salisbury is also the location of Arundells, the former home of Sir Edward Heath turned museum, and an impressive collection of ancient and more modern churches.

All around the town are routes into beautiful countryside, and because of this, the best places to stay in Salisbury are ideal for keen walkers or anyone wanting a country getaway.

The Best Places to Stay in Salisbury

Best Pubs-with-Rooms

  • The Chapter House is a wonderfully traditional pub in the heart of Salisbury, with a Tudor facade, and wood-beamed interiors. The pub and restaurant have been tastefully restored, but there’s still plenty of historic charm, great British fare and a wide selection of ales. The 17 rooms are individually decorated to make the most of the original features like the exposed beams, and irregular shaped rooms.
  • The Pembroke Arms is situated in a village just a few miles west of Salisbury. Here you'll find nine individually designed rooms plus a bar, excellent restaurant and buzzing Nole pizza barn.
