19 Best Wine Hotels in Mendoza

The Vines Resort and Spa

Mendoza is known for its big reds, which are grown, incredibly, in the shadows of the Andes mountains, where the days are sunny and nights chilly. But even higher up the slopes grow the Chardonnay and Semillon grapes, where the cold nights and unique soil give them the acidic taste the region’s known for. 80% of Argentina’s wine comes from this region, and there are about 800 wineries, so quite a lot to see and taste, especially during peak wine and food season between January and April. Plus the scenery is just spectacular! We have scoured the region to bring you the best wine hotels in Mendoza chosen on their design, amenities, location and service. From all-singing-all-dancing wine resorts to spectacular properties that offer something really really special and cosy rural retreats that won't break the bank. Use our guide and start to plan your Argentinian wine tasting adventure!

For the Album

Casa de Uco

  • Casa de Uco is a spectacular hotel. The architecture is stunning, and positioned as it is, in the Uco Valley, surrounded by vineyards and mountains, it’s nothing short of spectacular. Nothing but lots of glass walls would do this location justice, and Casa de Uco offers this paired with natural materials and simple, striking shapes. The hotel has 16 rooms and suites, plus a gorgeous restaurant, a gym and spa, swimming pool and hotel bikes.

Lodge Atamisque

  • Lodge Atamisque is a small and beautifully designed hotel, set on a winery and 700 acres of land. Rooms are spread though boxy-looking lodges, which mirror local architecture, but blend it with minimalist style — think huge windows, brushed concrete floors and walls, and a smattering of antiques. They all have sitting rooms and bathtubs located in outdoor courtyards — for optimum star-gazing — and each has a terrace with a hot tub too. The restaurant is excellent, serving not just its own wines, but also its own trout. And there’s plenty of countryside to explore on foot, or horseback. It’s a really stylish choice.

For Foodies

The Vines Resort and Spa

  • The Vines Resort & Spa is another truly stunning hotel, both for its location and the way its architecture complements it. Surrounded by vines, and then mountains, this low-rise collection of buildings contains 22 suites, complete with kitchenettes, living rooms and sliding glass onto private terraces. Plus a really fantastic restaurant headed up famous chef Francis Mallman who creates stunning regional dishes which showcase Argentinian beef. The indulgent spa is the icing on this very luxurious cake.
  • Finca La Azul is a six room hotel in a cleverly designed building which references the traditional architecture of the region, in a contemporary feeling package. Expect huge windows and glass walls, fireplaces and exposed stone, plus elegantly simple outdoor spaces with views over the stunning Uco Valley. The food is fantastic, and they have a cooking school, so it’s definitely one for foodies.

For a Special Occasion

Cavas Wine Lodge

  • Cavas Wine Lodge is an elegant, white-pillared villa, in a sunny valley, surrounded by its own vineyards, and framed by mountains. This vineyard produces some extremely fine wines, so staying in the lodges’ 14 rooms and suites is a treat for your eyes and your tastebuds. Spacious and stylish, with Art Deco style angles, private terraces, and huge bathrooms, these rooms are luxurious. As is the restaurant, where you can also take cooking classes. And there’s a pool and spa.
  • Lares de Chacras is a superbly rustic, stone-built property, with four very comfortable rooms, a welcoming fire-lit living space and an excellent restaurant. Everything about Lares de Chacras seems carefully designed; the stone exterior gives a rustic impression, but welcomes you into beautiful spaces with parquet floors and plaster walls, plus floor-to-ceiling windows. The restaurant serves superb local fare, and there’s a very impressive wine cellar. Outside there’s a pool and charming terrace.

For the Views

Tupungato Divino

  • Tupungato Divino is a six room hotel set on a vineyard at the foot of the Andes, so the views incredible. The decor is simple but comfortable, with large windows and natural materials, and there’s definitely a rustic feel to the pool and terrace. The restaurant champions local cuisine, and the atmosphere is back to basics, but without compromising on flavour or experience.
  • Alpasion is an incredibly positioned lodge in the Uco Valley, overshadowed by an incredible mountain range. Boxy on the outside, inside are five contemporary rooms, and an excellent Argentinian restaurant, which spills out onto a terrace with more glorious views. There’s a roof terrace too. They serve an impressive selection of local wines, including some produced onsite. The facilities are designed for maximum relaxation, and luxury — there’s a hot tub and pool with a view!

On a Vineyard

Club Tapiz

  • Club Tapiz is an 11 room villa set on a 22 acre wine estate, perfect for vineyard views and relaxation. Six rooms are in the main house, which also has an elegant restaurant and bar, and a sauna and hot tub, while four double rooms are in the Casa Zolo, which can be booked as a private villa, complete with its own dining room, catering facilities and swimming pool. All rooms are simply and stylishly decorated in natural shades, with square edges, and many have French windows which open onto a long balcony with incredible views.
  • The Posada Salentein is part of the Salentein winery, in the beautiful Uco Valley. Its 16 spacious guestrooms are spread between three low-rise villas, but are all similarly decorated in chocolate tones and contemporary shapes. The hotel has its own art collection, as well as a pool, gardens, hotel bikes and an extremely memorable restaurant.

For a Rural Retreat

Posada Verde Oliva

  • Posada Verde Oliva is a traditional feeling five room guesthouse on a working vineyard and olive farm. Each room is different, with the air of elegant guest rooms in a family home; our favourites have French windows opening out onto a checker board tiled terrace. Expect tranquillity, accompanied by home cooked meals and wines produced on the estate.
  • The Postales Hotel is a nine room hotel on a 37 acre vineyard. Each of the spacious rooms open onto the garden, and has simple decor: exposed beams, whitewashed plaster walls, and useful furniture. There’s a pool and gardens, and you’re welcome to eat and drink outside if the weather suggests it. The restaurant serves local classics paired with local wines, including those made onsite. Relaxing, friendly and affordable.

For an Intimate Escape

Rosell Boher Lodge

  • Rosell Boher Lodge is a collection of 12 villas and suites, nestling peacefully, and stylishly, between vineyards. The decor and architecture are minimal, making the most of the incredible views and location, and local materials too — expect clean lines and huge windows. The villas have their own hot tubs and campfires too. The main lodge is where you’ll find the cosy lounge bar and stylish restaurant, which also has a terrace. And of course there’s a pool.
  • Posada Borravino is a small, bungalow-style hotel with plenty of charm and lots of luxurious features. It has eight rooms, all simply decorated with exposed beams and spacious bathrooms, arranged around a central courtyard with a pool. The restaurant serves traditional Argentinian cuisine, and, of course, local wines. The Posada’s location, in Chacras de Coria, is ideal if you’re looking for a quieter base, but it’s still only 20 minutes drive from Mendoza.
  • Robles de Besares is a five room hotel, set on expansive grounds — also in Chacras de Coria. The decor is simple and classic, with a focus on quality features like comfortable mattresses and high-end linens. As well as the huge gardens there’s a pool and hot tub, and tennis courts. There’s no restaurant, but they offer an excellent breakfast, and you’re within walking distance of many great places to eat and drink.

For a Resort Experience

Entre Cielos

  • Entre Cielos is a spa resort on a vineyard, with 15 rooms, and one loft room, raised up above the vines for maximum privacy and novelty. The other 15 rooms and suites are cool too, individually decorated with an eye for design that would impress the editors of interiors magazines, as would the chic restaurant — with vineyard views and a wonderful Argentinian fusion menu. This is a spa resort, complete with a hammam, hot tub, indoor and outdoor pools, and a long treatment menu.
  • Algodon Wine Estates offers eight extremely comfortable rooms on a spectacular wine estate, complete with a golf course, in the foothills of the Sierra Pintada Mountains. The rooms are in lodges, spread around a small area of the grounds, so there’s a sense of space and privacy, but easy access to the pools and restaurant etc. They all have their own private patios, and living spaces, as well as simple, charming decor and incredible views. In addition to the golf course there’s a tennis club, with a clubhouse and eight courts. And the list of activities continues from there…

For Great Value

La Morada

  • La Morada is a four room hotel within vineyards that sit at the feet of the Andes. Contemporary in design, both inside and outside, this is a stylish but affordable choice. The views are incredible, from floor-to-ceiling windows, and the from private terraces. If you want more privacy there’s a separate villa, with self-catering facilities too. There’s no restaurant, but there is a bar, and they offer an excellent breakfast.

Best B&Bs

Finca Adalgisa

  • The Finca Adalgisa is a rustic, 11 room B&B, with vineyard views and access to lots of activities beyond wine tasting. If you want to try yoga, art, kayaking or rafting, or even learn a language, this is a great base, and it’s ideal for walkers and cyclists too. There’s no restaurant, but they offer an excellent breakfast.
