For a traditional stay

• Manoir de la Fieffe is an elegant 16th-century mansion with four bedrooms, set amid peaceful gardens and countryside, 3 kms outside Cherbourg. There is a lovely dining room with a fireplace dating back to the 16th century, and a sheltered terrace where you can enjoy breakfast in the warmer months. Interiors are traditionally elegant but with beautiful contemporary bathrooms.
• Château de Pont Rilly is a grand and beautifully restored 18th century château with just four rooms and plenty of character. The decor is traditional: think marble fireplaces, antiques and parquet floors. Outside the landscaped garden has small canals — a quaint choice.
• For a grand traditional stay, it doesn't get much better than Chateau de Canisy, a fairytale-like chateau set on a 700-acre estate. Beautifully kept throughout, the property offers numerous reception rooms filled with antiques and roaring fires while each stately guest room is individually dressed. Luxurious in every way.

For romance

• Château de Chantore is a stunning château tucked away in the countryside, only seven miles from Mont Saint Michel Abbey. There are just five rooms, resplendent with beautifully embroidered furniture and antique wallpaper. The perfect hideaway for two.
• Le Landemer is a beautifully renovated farmhouse located right on the coast. Smart accommodation boasts marvellous sea views as well as bathrooms with crystal washbasins. Here, the quiet atmosphere, splendid seafood restaurant and secluded location make this the ideal spot for a romantic getaway.

For foodies

• Le Mascaret offers a delightful mix of quirky decor and a relaxed atmosphere, but it's the Michelin-starred restaurant that truly steals the show. Enjoy exquisite dining in a charming setting, with a terrace and pool to unwind after your meal.
• For something a little less high brow, Hotel Restaurant Les Ormes, fits the bill. Primarily a restaurant, the fine dining cuisine blends local recipes with a modern twist. Traditional rooms are comfortable and homely and the best have coastal views. With a generous price tag, this is a real hit with foodies.

For great value

• La Marine is a bright, affordable, 28 room hotel in Barneville Carteret with modern decor and gorgeous sea views. Some of the more expensive rooms also have private balconies. The seafood restaurant has a Michelin star and there’s a bar and beautiful terrace.

• La Ramade offers incredible value with its stunning mansion setting, just a stone’s throw from Mont Saint Michel. Surrounded by scenic walks and the coast, it’s a perfect getaway, with extremely competitive room rates.
