About Verona

Verona, northern Italy’s storybook city of romance, Roman ruins, and sun-dappled piazzas, charms visitors with its blend of history and style. Picture waking in a palazzo just steps from the Arena di Verona, or a chic townhouse near Juliet’s balcony. Families can unwind in spacious hotels in peaceful quarters, while budget travellers find cosy stays in winding medieval lanes. For indulgence, luxury suites brim with art and views, ensuring Verona has the perfect hotel for every traveller.

Verona is a wonderfully walkable city, with most of its treasures tucked into a scenic bend of the Adige River. Here you can wander from the majestic Romanesque Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore to the rosy-hued Roman amphitheatre, explore elegant old churches, lose yourself in the winding streets of the old town, and even pay a visit to Juliet’s House. Many of the city’s best hotels are right in the heart of this compact area, making it easy to soak up the atmosphere at your own pace. While summer brings the famed opera season — along with a Shakespeare Festival, Carnival, and even a celebration of tortellini at the Festa del Nodo d’Amore — Verona has a quieter charm in winter, when misty, fog-draped streets lend a romantic air to its historic heart.

Travel information

  • Verona’s airport is called Verona Villafranca Airport, and is a short distance from the centre of town — around ten minutes by car or taxi, or 15 minutes by bus, number 199. Verona is also easily reached from Venice airport, Marco Polo, which is just over an hour and a half away by public transport, or around an hour by road. Verona’s station is right in the centre of town, and well connected to other large European centres.
  • If you plan to hire a car we recommend you visit our online partner Rentalcars.
  • With numerous museums and galleries, Verona is a year round destination, however it’s certainly busier with visitors in the summer months. If you are visiting in summer expect hot, sunny weather, but Verona’s temperatures are relatively mild at both ends of the temperature scale, by Italian standards. The Verona Arena Opera season runs between June and August. Spring and autumn are quieter times to visit, and the weather can be lovely, though you should allow for the possibility of rain. In fact you should allow for a certain amount of humidity whenever you visit Verona. Some of Verona’s attractions run reduced hours during the cooler months, but everything is fully open by March. If you visit Verona in winter, and the Christmas festivities are especially lovely here, though be prepared for fog too.
