Be brave and dive right into the cacophony of the senses that is Delhi, and you'll find there's even more to this city than the sprawling, chaotic, incoherent, colourful, historic wonder you've been promised. Delhi can be confronting. But hold your nerve, join the current and you'll discover the gems of both Old and New Delhi. Many of the best places to stay in Delhi are centrally located, making them a perfect base to explore this fascinating city. These include some world-class five-star hotels; however, if you want something with a more local feel, there are some very chic boutique properties and B&Bs to choose from, too, set in the residential 'colonies' which are generally quiet and very green areas of south Delhi. If you need to be near the airport, we've found a chic property close by that's the perfect foil for the usual soulless options that you find by the transport hubs.
Some of our Delhi Collections:
While travellers often plan just a short trip to Delhi on the way in and out of India, we believe the city deserves a little more time. There are a host of important historical sites, including relics from the Mughal era such as Humayan's Tomb and the Red Fort and from the British Empire, such as India Gate stretching up to the parliament. The city is also packed full of buzzy markets and beautiful parks. It's a sprawling city and while transport is easy (an efficient and clean metro or very reasonably priced autorikshaws, taxis, and private hire cars), the travel time can be long, meaning it's best not to pack too much into one day. Positioning yourself in a hotel in central or south Delhi will reduce travel time, with many of the historical sites, restaurants, and markets in and around those areas. For those who fear the city may be overwhelming, it's worth splurging on one of the five-star hotels and incorporating some pool and spa time into your day while also having access to efficient concierges. For others who really want to get a feel of the city, our Gurus love the small, independently run boutiques.
