About Lecce

Lecce, a vibrant city in the heart of Puglia, is known for its stunning Baroque architecture, rich history, and lively atmosphere. Often called "The Florence of the South," it offers a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comforts. Whether you’re looking for a luxurious stay in a grand palazzo or a cosy, family-friendly B&B, Lecce has it all. For a stylish experience, the city’s boutique hotels blend contemporary design with its signature Baroque beauty. If you’re on a budget, there are charming guesthouses and traditional hotels in the historic centre. For the best experience, stay near Piazza Sant'Oronzo or the Old Town.

Lecce is a city brimming with history and stunning architecture, especially around the Duomo at the top of the hill. From there, you can wander through a maze of narrow streets to discover some of the city's most impressive sights, including the Roman-style Porto Napoli, an excavated Roman amphitheatre, and a 12th-century castle with a 16th-century facelift. Beyond its rich history, Lecce is also a food lover’s paradise, with local vineyards and olive farms that make dining here a treat. Just ten kilometres away, you’ll find sandy beaches, easily reachable by a straight Roman road. With so much to offer, it’s no surprise Lecce is a popular destination, so be sure to book your stay in advance if you're visiting during peak summer months!

Travel information

  • Lecce’s closest international airport is Brindisi Airport, about half an hour away by road, or 40 minutes by public transport. It’s also possible to arrive by train, usually via Milan or Rome.
  • If you plan to hire a car, which we would advise if you want to get out and explore further afield, we recommend you visit our online partner Rentalcars.
  • Lecce’s Mediterranean climate means there’s not really a bad time to visit as far as the weather is concerned. It’s hot in summer, but only really 30°C+ hot in July and August, and it does rain in the winter, but not so much as to swear you off visiting. Summer, and August especially, is the most popular time to visit, but that’s because Puglia is a summer beach holiday destination for many, rather than this being the optimum time. If you’re planning to walk or cycle during your Lecce visit spring is our recommendation, for the orchids and cyclamen, and other colourful flowers.
