About Albarracín

With a well-deserved reputation as one of Spain's most beautiful towns, Albarracín is a fabulous destination for heritage aficionados or romantics eager to simply unwind in striking surroundings. Perched above a curve of the Río Guadalaviar, this pink-hued hill town boasts an intriguing mix of Moorish and medieval Spanish architecture and a fascinating past. This is reflected in the best places to stay in Albarracín, too, which are intimate, characterful and set close to the town’s main sights.

Once the capital of the Moorish Kingdom of Taifa, Albarracín brims with fascinating historic landmarks. The ruins of an alcázar sit on a clifftop overlooking the old town, itself a warren of twisting cobbled streets, where ancient houses with overhanging wooden balconies jostle for space. Hike up to the imposing Murallas de Albarracín on the neighbouring hillside, topped by the 10th-century Andador Tower, and don’t miss marvelling at the 16th-century Catedral del Salvador whilst you’re in town. Gradually restored from near-abandonment over the last 60 years, this has to be one Spain’s most magical towns.

Venture into the countryside of Aragón's Sierra de Albarracín Comarca region for fantastic treks, climbing and bouldering opportunities. Try horse riding and cycling, or go fishing in fresh mountain streams. The pine forests and sandstone hills of the Pinares de Rodeno National Park are glorious. This is a real gem of a destination; as are the best places to stay in Albarracín.
