Yarm’s pretty spot on the River Tees is the charming backdrop to a lovely town boasting Georgian buildings and cobbled streets. It’s possibly best known for its spectacular railway viaduct, an impressive 690metre long construction with 43 arches that span the Tees, but some visitors will be more interested in its location — close to the North York Moors National Park; the Yorkshire Dales; the North Pennines; Durham Cathedral; the Darlington Railway Museum, and Barnard Castle. As you may imagine, many of the best places to stay in Yarm are ideal for walkers, but as well as B&Bs and inns, our Gurus’ list of the best places to stay in Yarm has some wonderful country house hotels.
Yarm is a green and leafy place, with 200 year old woods surrounding the river, where, as well as walking trails, there are also bike trails, and a BMX track complete with jumps. Cycling along the river you’ll also come across several impressive churches and the railway viaduct. If you can, it’s worth planning your stay in Yarm to coincide with the regular monthly Farmers' Market, which is generally held on the second Sunday of the month — make sure you check before you travel, though!
