In a modernist building overlooking Hvar's pretty fishing harbour, the mood at the Adriana is immediately carefree and summery, thanks to the reception filled with natural light and sunshine, and graced with big bold abstract paintings in blues and whites. You'll see similar paintings again in the adjoining restaurant, serving creative Mediterranean fare. Here, the best tables are on a raised waterside terrace, where at dinner you can watch the sky change hue at dusk, with Hvar's glimmering facades reflecting in the bay. Afterwards, for a nightcap, you might visit the Adriana's rooftop lounge-bar, with sweeping views down onto Hvar's harbour, main square and Baroque cathedral.

Light and airy rooms have wooden floors and minimalist white decor, while the spa suites come with whirlpool tubs (big enough for two), and the three penthouse suites offer the most space and the best views. But perhaps the Adriana's ace card is the superb Sensori Spa, extending over several levels, both indoors and out, and offering a full range of beauty treatments and even a covered rooftop pool. And if you wish to explore further afield, the concierge can arrange tours and activities across the island.
