“A grand 19th century hotel in Bloomsbury, central London, overlooking leafy Russell Square. The mood combines heritage and modern style, with 1920's inspired touches. Guests can enjoy a British brasserie, cocktail bar, cafe, afternoon tea lounge and well-equipped gym. A refined city stay. ”

Hotel review

Hot tip: Rub the nose of the brass dragon in the hotel, Lucky George. Charles Fitzroy Doll, the architect and designer of Kimpton Fitzroy London, commissioned two of them and the other one was on the RMS Titanic – he designed the first-class dining room

The 19th-century, five-star Kimpton Fitzroy London is set in leafy Bloomsbury, right in the heart of London. On arrival, you simply can’t miss Charles Fitzroy Doll’s architectural marvel of a hotel – after all, he did design the high drama first-class dining room on the RMS Titanic – this is a hotel with a prolific history and a cosseting place to stay in central London. Just jump in a taxi from King's Cross and arrive in five minutes.

Bloomsbury makes a great base for the sights, there’s a Tube station right next door to the hotel, whisking you to the big hitting attractions, but walkable sights include: Marylebone, 20 minutes away by foot for perusing the boutiques and bookshops; The British Museum is a five minute walk; Bloomsbury itself is a lovely spot for a wander. But the best part is returning to this treat of a city stay.

There are 334 decadent rooms and suites, with no luxury spared. The elegant, neutral-hued suites have glossy white-and-slate grey marble bathrooms with a deep standalone tub and a powerful rainfall shower. Book a beautiful suite to make the most of it; they are so deluxe that they are a place you might prefer to dwell, but London calls. If you’re feeling flush, go all-out and book The Fitzroy Suite (a four-room wonder) – then you’ll never leave the place.

Fitz’s Brasserie is a light-filled, snazzy dining room for a sumptuous breakfast or dinner – breakfast here is a treat with an immense buffet and good hot menu options at chatty, white-cloaked tables; at dinner time, the seabass in mango salsa was delicious and the service friendly and fun. There’s a moody cocktail bar and a polished lounge bar; the latter had happy hour perks for guests, where drinks were complimentary, a small but welcome gesture after a day racking up steps in London.

The communal lounge areas around the hotel are a real highlight; as you enter, there’s a roaring fire and cosy sofas in the harlequin floored lobby, or turn another corner and have a pot of tea in the art-and-chandelier-filled check-in. This makes the hotel feel more homely.
