Hotel Balzac combines stylish living with 19th century Parisian elegance in a beautiful Haussmann building, which was once the site of novelist Honoré de Balzac’s last residence. Neutral tones, wooden and velvet finishes, and warm muted lighting feature throughout the hotel, from the welcoming lounge area to the bedrooms, all carefully designed by a well-known Parisian architect-interior design duo.
The 58 rooms and suites, some with views of the Eiffel Tower as well as balconies, are all extremely well presented with high ceilings, smart furnishings and incredibly comfortable beds. There are different categories of room, from the smallest Boudoir Rooms to the airy top floor suites which have large rooftop terraces. The bathrooms, many with both shower and bath, have Diptyque products and the minibars resemble an artisanal deli, with a wonderful selection of Angelina chocolates, cheese biscuits and a good variety of drinks.
The breakfast menu is extensive and can be enjoyed either in-room or downstairs in the comfortable lounge area where, in winter months, the open fire place makes a warming addition. Delicious pastries and bread from a renowned bakery are on offer while there are also cooked dishes, as well as cold meats, Scottish smoked salmon and refreshing fruit salad. At other times of the day, there’s an extensive and up market, as you would expect, bar menu and the helpful team at Hotel Balzac can also make restaurant recommendations and bookings including the legendary Pierre Gagnaire three Michelin starred restaurant which is in the same building.
Remarkably quiet, especially given the hotel’s proximity to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, the hotel feels like a luxury oasis and that’s before entering the Japanese-inspired Ikoi Spa. Here, guests can use the sauna, plunge pool and opt for pampering treatments too.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Hidden just off the Champs-Élysées, Hôtel Balzac is a place we love for its sense of balance. Our location allows guests to be moments away from the energy of Paris, while returning to a calm, discreet refuge where the city feels wonderfully distant.
We wanted the hotel to feel like a private Parisian home rather than a traditional city hotel. Soft Art Deco lines, muted tones and carefully chosen details shape an atmosphere of understated elegance, while our warm, attentive service reflects the values we share with Relais & Châteaux. It’s this combination of tranquillity, character and genuine hospitality that makes guests feel at ease—and eager to return.
What is there to do in the area? From the hotel, we enjoy being moments from what many consider the world’s most beautiful avenue, the Champs-Élysées, with its iconic landmarks, elegant architecture and chic boutiques. Surrounded by some of Paris’s finest restaurants and cafés, the hotel also serves as a perfect base from which to explore the city’s cultural, culinary and historic treasures with ease.
What kind of breakfast do you offer? We prepare breakfast in our own kitchen and offer several options, ranging from a light continental breakfast to a full American-style breakfast. The more generous option features organic eggs, a selection of cold cuts and cheeses, freshly baked pastries, yoghurt and seasonal fruit.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We serve food throughout the day at the hotel, whether for a full meal or something lighter. Guests can enjoy a selection of timeless favourites—from our signature Caesar salad and Club sandwich to pasta dishes, roast chicken, Petrossian caviar specialties and a range of indulgent desserts, including the iconic Angelina Mont-Blanc.
We are also fortunate to share the building with the legendary Pierre Gagnaire, whose three Michelin stars make it a truly once-in-a-lifetime dining experience.
The surrounding neighbourhood offers an exceptional choice of restaurants, and our Clefs d’Or Concierge team is always happy to recommend a few favourites, including Le Jardin de Presbourg for refined cuisine in a leafy setting, Le 110 Taillevent for contemporary French gastronomy, La Maison François Ier for classic charm and tradition, and Brasserie La Lorraine for generous bistro fare in a lively, convivial atmosphere.
Which are your most popular room types, and why? At Hôtel Balzac, our rooms are appreciated for their sense of harmony rather than hierarchy. All share the same calm, refined décor, with white-painted wood or moiré beige fabrics, hardwood floors or soft carpeting, and, in most cases, floor-to-ceiling windows and Juliet balconies. Guests naturally gravitate towards the higher floors for the views, with some rooms overlooking the Eiffel Tower, while our top-floor suites are particularly sought after for their open-air terraces above the rooftops of Paris.
What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We offer a range of connecting room options that work particularly well for families, and all Junior Suites and Suites feature a double pull-out sofa. For those seeking more space, our Paris Sky Suite offers two bedrooms and two bathrooms. We do not use extra beds.
What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers? Our greatest pleasure is in taking care of people—through kindness, attention and small, thoughtful gestures—so that each stay feels easy, personal and sincere. If guests leave feeling rested, looked after and eager to return, then we feel we have done our job.
