Want to visit Venice but not brave the crowds at all hours of the day? Head to JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa. Located on its own private island, Isola delle Rose, the historical property dates back to the late 1800's and in 2015 Marriott Hotels turned it into a retreat for travellers who wanted to reprise from the hustle and bustle of the lagoon.

The hotel caters primarily to American travellers and is showing its age in some spots but it is just so likeable given there is nothing similar in the area. Everything you need is on the island. Rooms for solo travellers, suites for couples and even a private villa for high-fliers. The JW Retreat Villas are ideal for families with the loft, private pool and multiple bathrooms excellent for 4 family members who value space and comfort. 

The JW Marriott Venice is a resort and so expect to be entertained: there are multiple padel courts, swimming pools, a high-tech gym, free bikes to roam the island and space – lots of it. There is also an on-site spa which includes a pool, steam room, sauna and also treatment rooms for a relaxing massage.

There are multiple dining outlets including a rooftop bar, lobby bar, cafe with excellent pastries and also Sagra, the signature dining experience on the island with stunning views of Venice, friendly service and deliciously prepared pasta dishes. The restaurant sources most of its vegetables from the on-site garden and should not be overlooked as just another hotel restaurant. Linger at night and watch the sunset for the perfect aperitivo hour in Venice. 

There is a free shuttle that takes hotel guests to/from Saint Mark’s square which runs every half hour.
