“Set in deep Cotswold countryside, this Relais and Châteaux hotel is definitely suited to both a young clientele and the wealthy retired. Perfect romantic getaway. Dog but not family-friendly. Two hours from London. Ideal for gourmets and those with green fingers.”

Hotel Overview

“Neighbouring the Fosse Way and the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, this five-star country house was converted into a hotel in 1987. Set in twelve acres, the gardens are landscaped to the old 1920s plans and have water sculptures and spongy lawns. There’s a beautiful rose garden, an upper and lower terrace, a charming gazebo and an open meadow where helicopters land. It’s all set amongst a scattering of oaks and ash trees.

The comfortable rooms come with tartan wallpaper and bathrooms with heated floor and fluffy towels. The interior decor successfully balances the old manor house with the requirements of a luxury modern hotel. Old oak staircases, fires lit, tasteful artefacts and rugs with an impressive size and pattern. Right down to the yellow Wellington boots provided, it’s very evident that all has been thoroughly thought through!

Chef Niall Keating has just been awarded a Michelin star for The Dining Room. The design is modern, neutral and zen, the service and food being sufficient embellishment. The Aquarias Spa’s motto “immerse in tranquility” is borne out with a ‘tepidarium’ and a hydrotherapy that extends outdoors.”
