About Bregenz

Perched on the shores of Lake Constance, Bregenz offers a stunning background of the Alps, mountain meadows and medieval architecture. This Austrian gem, located in the country's westernmost Vorarlberg region (of which it is the capital), boasts a mild climate and a beautiful lake, making it an ideal base for outdoor activities — whether skiing, biking, or hiking. The city hosts an annual opera festival, attracting visitors from all over the globe, and its centrepiece is a stunning amphitheatre for performances which hovers over the lake! For couples, groups of friends and families, accommodation options range from simple, self-catering properties to contemporary city hotels with all the facilities you might need. The best places to stay in Bregenz are either right on the edge of the lake or in the middle of town — perfect for experiencing the best of this city.

Start by exploring the fascinating Kunsthaus Bregenz, the opera house and cultural centre, and Martinsturm, the old city gate. Continue your tour with a hike up the beautiful Alpenwildpark Pfänder and admire the mouflons, ibexes and wild boars. Delve into Bregenz’s rich history by wandering its cobblestoned streets and visit the Oberstadt district to take in the grand city gate and Thurn and Taxis Park. Wind down with stunning lake views at Seepromenade mit Hafenmole and refresh yourself with a tasty local dish or two. Finally, take a bracing dip in the swimming baths at the Strandbad Bregenz or Seehallenbad.

With so much to see and do, the best places to stay in Bregenz are often reserved months in advance, so it’s best to do your research and book well ahead.
