Paris’s Best Honeymoon Hotels

L’Hôtel was Oscar Wilde’s Left Bank address until his untimely death in one of their rooms, a fact that’s romantic on so many levels, but probably most relevant here because he’s known for having romantic, decadent aesthetic tastes. Obviously the decor has changed since his time, but it’s still flamboyant and beautiful, arranged around a fabulous circular atrium, with the 20 rooms and suites offering a variety of sizes and jewel-box worthy colour palettes. There’s also a wonderfully luxurious spa and a candlelit plunge pool.
For a slightly different take on romance, but in an equally impressive, Belle Époque revival setting, you could choose to honeymoon at Maison Souquet, a beautifully converted former pleasure house in Montmartre. There are just 20 rooms, decorated in rich, dark colours with luxurious silks, satins and velvets, plus plenty of gilt and some beautiful mirrors. You can reserve the hotel’s spa and pool for private use, which feels very honeymoon-y decadent.

In this article we’re going to wax lyrical about many a hotel location, but the location of the Pavillon de la Reine, in the Place des Vosges, is difficult to best. This really has to be one of the first, if not the finest squares in Paris, just on the dressy side of the Marais. You have to approach this hotel through a peaceful courtyard garden, and it makes sense, because this 17th Century beauty was once the residence of Anne of Austria, wife of Louis XIII. Parisian royalty. The interiors have been updated, and there’s now a spa and an honesty bar, but many of the romantic charms are the same as during Anne’s time
For something really special stay at the Hotel Costes, an achingly hip boudoir style hotel in a prime location on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, one of the smartest streets in Paris. This hotel is so cool that its website only gives connect details, you have to know about it to stay there. Which is why so many A-listers do want to stay there. That and the opulent Jacques Garcia haute-bordello stye decor, the shadowy corners and curtained daybeds in the fabulous pool room, the trendy restaurant and the hip bar with live DJ sets… It’s really a different breed of hotel, and oh so private, exclusive and romantic.

The Most Romantic Hotel Views in Paris

The Hotel Bowmann occupies a beautiful Haussmann building in the 8th Arrondissement, and while it’s not particularly close to any of the major sights, that does mean that the views from its private terraces offer views of more than one of them. In a quality field the most romantic room is probably the Eiffel Tower View Suite, but all the 53 rooms are beautiful and romantic, with a luxurious, very Parisian feel of hardwood floors, wall reliefs, chandeliers and gilded mirrors. The spa promises to be a proper escape, and foodies are very fond of the 99 Haussmann restaurant, which offers Parisian fine-dining at its best.
Le Damantin is a luxurious hotel and spa on the bank of the Seine in the 8th Arrondissement close to the Champs-Elysées. The interiors are very stylish and very monochrome, but most importantly the best rooms offer a view of the Eiffel Tower. There’s nowhere quite like Le Petit Moulin, the fabulous, 17 room, four star boutique hotel designed by Christian Lacroix, and perfectly positioned in the romantic Marais. Each of the rooms is totally unique, because why would you miss an opportunity to experiment with colour and design? And all are bright, beautiful and confident. Monsieur Lacroix kept the facade, of the oldest boulangerie in Paris, where they say Victor Hugo bought his baguettes, but aside from that he’s put his colourful, playful stamp on everything. This hotel will make your romantic trip to Paris unforgettable.
Le Petit Moulin is a hard act to follow, but the Relais St Germain is equally glamorous, and might be more to your personal tastes. This charming Art Deco hotel era hotel is on the Boulevard Sainte Germain, which is a wonderful Left Bank address surrounded by luxurious boutiques, cafes and bars, and its 22 rooms and suites have an air of the historic about them, with opulent furnishings and classic French prints and patterns. And the restaurant is gourmet.
The hotel Saint James Paris is unlike any of the other hotels on this list, it’s a neoclassical mansion built on the site of Paris’s first aerodrome, so slightly off centre in the 16th Arrondissement about a kilometre from the Arc de Triomphe and close to Saint-Ouen flea market. So it looks like a country house hotel or chateau from the outside, and on the inside it has 49 individually decorated rooms with wonderful statement wallpapers and eclectic objets d’art. If you book a Luxury Suite you’ll have your own private drawing room. The restaurant is indulgent and there’s outdoor space too. So grand. So romantic.

The Most Romantic Boltholes in Paris

The Hotel Bourg Tibourg is a compact, Parisian townhouse on the outside, but on the inside it’s nothing less than a Moorish palace, complete with sultry boudoirs dripping with rich fabrics held in place by tassels, fragranced by innumerable scented candles and dimly, but beautifully lit. Definitely sensual, this 30 room hotel is in a great spot close to the Pompidou Centre and the Marais, and surrounded by cafes, bars, boutiques and galleries. There’s no restaurant, but they do offer breakfast and room service and there’s a gorgeous lounge which lends the feeling of being a houseguest at a wonderful party…
Les3chambres certainly won’t be to everyone’s taste, but that’s what makes it so wonderful, and those who love this three room B&B will really love it. This is your chance to pretend you’re Parisian, owners of a classic Parisian apartment, which has been carefully and vibrantly decorated with statement wallpaper, quirky ornaments and some confidently reupholstered antique furniture. You’re close to the Gare du Nord, sort of equidistant between the Louvre and Montmartre, so it’s a good spot if you want to see the sights. The friendly hosts will prepare an excellent breakfast and share a wealth of city knowledge, if you want them to.

Close to the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the Hotel du Champ de Mars has 25 rooms, and a feeling of welcoming country chic, but in the heart of the city. The accommodation sits behind a refined townhouse facade, and the rooms are off a grand, central spiral staircase. For an Eiffel Tower view book a Superior Double. There’s no restaurant, but they do have a breakfast room. This is an easy location to if you want to do some sightseeing.
If you value clever, creative design and a fantastic location over size, then La Maison Favart might be the stylish, romantic Paris bolthole for you. In the 2nd Arrondissement, just a few minutes from the Opéra Garnier and the Grands Boulevards, this Maison has 39 rooms, decorated in a regal palette, but with plenty of bold prints and modern details, plus a subterranean spa that you’ll probably remember forever.

Some of the Most Romantic Hotels on Paris’s Left Bank

Once a grand, private home near Saint Germain des Près, the Hotel Duc de Saint-Simon offers an elegant, intimate sort of a stay. There are just 34 rooms and suites, which are quite small, but carefully and uniquely decorated by a confident hand who appreciates traditional French decor. You’re really well located for the lively evenings of the Left Bank, and for its museums and galleries.

Hip, Chic and Romantic Hotels in Paris

The 1K Hotel is a super cool four star hotel in the Marais, with a super cool cocktail bar, 52 super cool rooms with super cool art on the walls and lots of white surfaces and natural light — and two have their own private, heated outdoor plunge pools. Which is super cool. The Marais location is super cool too, of course. And some of the beds are round as well as big, which is fun and romantic.
Close to the Champs-Élysées, and numerous excellent bars and bistros, the Hotel Keppler offers 34 sophisticated rooms and suites with all the latest technology and some striking design details. There’s no restaurant, but they do offer breakfast and the location is superb for going out of an evening.

Some of the Best Value Romantic Hotels in Paris

The Hôtel Providence is boutique, bohemian and intimate, with just 18 rooms decorated in plush fabrics and carefully selected antiques, flea-market treasures and designer pieces. Suites have their own mini-cocktail bar and the best, at the top of the hotel, have balconies or private terraces and views over Montmartre. The 10th Arrondissement location is what helps keep the prices down here, but you’re very close to the Marché de St-Martin gourmet food market and about a kilometres walk from the Pompidou Centre or the Marais.
You might think that the lively, upmarket district of Saint Germain des Près and the words ‘great value’ might be a tricky pairing, but at the Hotel Au Manoir they make a good couple. This chic, 28 room bolthole is in a really privileged spot on the Boulevard St Germain, close to the church and surrounded by beautiful independent cafes, bars and boutiques. The decor is classic French, with fancy beds and plenty of mirrors, and there’s a tiny courtyard and conservatory which give the breakfast room lots of natural light. There’s no restaurant but in this location you really don’t need one.
