For the Album

The Edgewater has to be the best located hotel in Seattle — right on top of the waterfront, on the edge of the pier, so that rooms on the waterside have balconies like a cruise ship! The rooms on the other side have city views, so both are a pleasure. There are more than 220 to choose from, including some with fireplaces, and lots to suit families — and there are lots of extras for kids. And dogs, who’re provided with travel kennels and bowls. The restaurant is iconic, and incredible, and the hotel has a history with the music industry. Super cool.

For the Views

The Alexis Royal Sonesta Hotel is an historic hotel in West Edge, overlooking the lake. There are 121 rooms and suites, all recently refurbished and decorated to feel stylish and contemporary, with that nod to Scandi mid-century design. The restaurant is gourmet, the bar and cafe is an atmospheric former bookshop, and the gym is fantastic. Dogs up to 75lbs are welcome.

For a Special Occasion

The Fairmont Olympic Hotel is big and iconic, offering Edwardian grandeur and sense of occasion, but also all the mod cons. On a whole block of prime Seattle real estate, the hotel is able to offer rooms in a large range of shapes and sizes, plus an impressive list of facilities that includes a huge spa and beauty bar, a roof terrace with bee hives, a health club with a huge indoor pool, and an excellent array of places to eat and drink. Despite the hotel’s high-end facilities and details, this is a really welcoming place for both kids and dogs, with extensive menus of treats for both, and sitting available for both too.

For a Seattle City Break

The 96 room Palihotel Seattle is a stylishly simple hotel in a fantastic central spot close to Pike Place Market. Decorated in shades of green, with original artworks, floral fabrics, vintage finds, plants and Smeg mini-fridges, this hotel feels cool without being so hip you don’t know if you’re welcome. The restaurant and bar are laid back and friendly too, with a Southern-inspired menu and a great cocktail list. Dogs up to 30lbs are welcome, and greeted with treats and toys.
The Hotel Max is a big, boxy choice, with lots of glass offering views of the city, a bold colour palette, original artworks, and a popular bar and restaurant. There are 163 rooms and suites, with a good collection of dog-friendly choices, available for a $25 fee, and including a great list of local pet resources.
The Hotel Theodore is a simply stylish, 153 room hotel in downtown Seattle. All the furniture you see is handmade locally: unfussy and elegant, and there’s an impressive collection of locally produced artwork too. The restaurant is equally unfussy, but solid with it — specialising in local produce and cuisine. Pets are welcomed with beds, bowls and treats, for $25. There are some good sized Family Suites too.

For the Whole Family

The Hotel Monaco is a contemporary pick in central Seattle, with a definite European-ness to its design, and an excellent bar and restaurant. With 189 rooms and suites there’s something to suit every configuration of family — including those with big dogs. There’s also a 24 hour fitness centre.
The Watertown Hotel is a fun, friendly hotel right next to the University of Washington. Its one hundred rooms and suites, plus huge open-plan lobby are simply and stylishly dressed, and there’s a gym and pool, as well as the usual bar and restaurant. The rooms are big, with spacious bathrooms and sofa beds. Some have coffee makers, microwaves and fridges too. Dogs are welcome and beds, bowls and waste bags can be provided.

For Romantics and their Dogs

The Hotel Vintage is a simple but romantic pick; ideal for couples who want to get out and explore the city, but have somewhere stylish and slightly cosseting to come back to. The location is perfect for restaurants, bars and shopping, as well as the museums and galleries, or you can dine in at the popular Italian restaurant, Tulio. Pets of all sizes are welcome, and you can even arrange dog-sitting.

For City Style

W Seattle is designed to be a super hip pick in the centre of town: think bold colours, big art installations, and a huge ground floor bar with a massive fireplace and regular DJ appearances. Our favourite rooms, and there are more than 400 to choose from, have sweeping city views, and the P.A.W. (pets are welcome) policy allows for two pets per room. There’s also a lively restaurant and several interesting public spaces, including yoga studios, sound studios and a ballroom.
Graduate Seattle is in the University District, and has a hip, young feel, but decor that really respects this building’s Art Deco origins — think elegant, architectural shapes, large rooms, and varsity colours. There’s a fantastically buzzing rooftop bar with wonderful city views, and a chic library lounge and cool bar/restaurant. Pets are welcome for a charge of $25.
The Kimpton Palladian Hotel has a grand dame heritage, but with a trendy makeover. Its Belltown location has influenced the decor, which is striking and cool, with a rock’n’roll edge. There are 97 rooms and suites (the suites are really big!) and they’re really welcoming of dogs, with additional perks like pet-sitting, dog-walking and grooming available. It’s that sort of hotel, luxurious, but not taking itself too seriously. The bar attracts a cool local crowd too.

For an Urban Escape

Hotel 1000 is a smart, contemporary hotel which doesn’t look like the kind of place you could bring your pet — but is! It’s in the heart of the city, just metres from the waterfront, and the views are incredible. Its 120 rooms and suites are decorated in contemporary pastels, with a slight industrial edge, and they all have up to the minute technology. The spa is gorgeous, and their seafood and oyster bar is a sophisticated place to dine.

For Great Value

Seattle’s Ace Hotel is in Belltown, with views out to Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains. Inside are 28 comfortable rooms and suites, decorated with chic, unfussy, slightly industrial-feeling decor, hardwood floors and interesting art. There’s also a shared kitchen and dining room, and no restaurant, but lots in the area. Dogs are welcome — for no fee! And you can stay really affordably if you’re willing to share a bathroom.
The Hotel Five is a quirky, downtown hotel, with an art-y design-y feel and 116 rooms — most of which can sleep four — where dogs of any size are welcome. There’s no restaurant, but there’s a cafe in the lobby, a cool bar and games room, and all sorts of in-room perks.
