St Martin is a popular Caribbean island destination, busy, because of its cruise ship port, but with tranquil pockets, and beautiful beaches all the way around the island. Unlike most other Caribbean destinations the island is split in two (meaning you get one island with two very different flavours). On the southern side is Dutch Sint Maarten, known for its lively cruise ship crowds, for its buzzy beach bars, and for its glamorous shopping; and on the northern side is French Saint Martin, more tranquil, historic, and with serious foodie credentials. There are hotel and resort options on both sides — from great-value-family-break properties to no-expense-it’s-my-honeymoon hotels.
