Limone stuns with its narrow, historic lanes winding down to the old port, Porto Vecchio, a spot brimming with charm and sunny little bars and cafes. From here you can stroll along the promenade, which leads past the newer part of town with its easygoing beaches, places to eat and drink, and even old lemon groves and elegant lemon houses that recall the town’s citrus-growing past. The churches are worth a look too, whether for their panoramic lake views, frescoes, or historic artefacts. Families and casual wanderers will love the pebbly shores and the regular ferry rides across the lake, while the town’s position on the Via Gardesana makes it both easy to reach and beautifully situated, especially along the scenic Upper Lake Road where many of the best places to stay can be found.
