About Taormina

Perched high above the sparkling Ionian Sea, Taormina is Sicily’s showstopper—think jaw-dropping views of Mount Etna, ancient ruins, and timeless Mediterranean charm. Many hotels offer breathtaking views—of the sparkling sea on one side and the town’s historic treasures on the other. From opulent palazzos oozing old-school glamor to chic boutique stays and laid-back B&Bs, Taormina has it all. Stay near Corso Umberto for luxury and buzz, or head toward Mazzarò for relaxed beach resorts and wallet-friendly gems.

Some of our Taormina Collections:

Taormina effortlessly blends old-world charm with coastal glamor, drawing a stylish crowd to its elegant streets lined with boutiques, lively cafes, and refined restaurants. In the heart of town, Corso Umberto hums with energy, especially in the evenings, while just beyond the center, you’ll find dramatic ancient ruins like the impressive amphitheatre that once captivated 19th-century Grand Tourers.

The coastline is just as captivating, with its mix of sandy coves, shingle bays, and rocky islets that dot the turquoise waters. Many upscale stays offer private beach access and convenient shuttle services, making the short trip down to the sea a breeze. Whether you're relaxing on a quiet stretch of sand or hopping on a boat to explore the offshore islands, Taormina’s seaside charm is hard to resist—especially outside the busy midsummer months.

Travel information

  • Sicily has four airports, with Catania Airport, the closest to Taormina, about 45minutes drive, or about an hour and a half away by train. Palermo Airport is on the other side of the island, about three hours away by car, or six by public transport.
  • If you want to hire a car, we recommend you visit our online partner, Rentalcars.
  • Sicily, unlike some Italian destinations, remains open all year round. That doesn’t mean it’s equally nice all year round, it’s definitely chilly in winter. If you come between November and February expect the daylight hours to impact opening hours too. Spring, or March through June, really, is one of our favorite times to visit Sicily, because the weather is sunny and mild, and the festival and events calendar is packed with activity leading up to Easter. July and August are properly hot, and the Mediterranean beaches and beach resorts are busy, and can be expensive, but the visitors tail off in September, though the sea is still warm and pleasant. October is a good pick if you’re planning to visit the museums and palaces, and admire the architecture, and our Gurus recommend September and October, and April and May, as the best times to visit for walkers.
