“An inviting, modernised 17th century Grade II Listed house (formerly Charingworth Manor) set within 60 acres of grounds in the heart of the Cotswolds. The twenty-six rooms have been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. A restorative stay, ideal for couples and families. ”

Hotel review

“Do nothing” is the mantra at this newly opened (September 2025) hotel where guests are invited to completely unwind and reset. The pared down interior is geared towards warmth, calmness and comfort - earthy-coloured walls and tactile, soft linen seating in neutral tones. No formality, harsh colours or surfaces here. Hyll has an arrangement with Borzoi Books to provide a curated reading menu so guests can devour a novel by an open fire, play boardgames, take advantage of the hotel’s LP record collection, have an in-room facial or massage. Or simply be - something that gets more appealing in an increasingly hectic world full of noise and endless distractions.

Uncluttered rooms are divided between the main house and courtyard buildings and offer atmospheric lighting and sumptuously cocooning Naturalmat beds. The restaurant, headed by chef Mark Coleman, delivers an ever-changing menu of deliciously flavoured vegetable-led seasonal food such as crispy polenta with mushrooms or spatchcock poussin with dates and crushed caramelised lemon and truffle-parmesan potatoes. All ingredients are locally sourced. Breakfast is laid back with the option of room service, offering homemade granola with berry compote, tasty sourdough, pastries and eggs every way, including spicy Turkish-style. Staff are friendly and attentive. Guests can dip into Hyll’s “Do Nothing” booklet in their room or “Do Something” guide with recommendations of outings in the area…if, indeed, they can drag themselves away from the compound.

Why do people love staying in your hotel?
Hyll has lived many lives: a family home, a retreat, a place where stories unfolded within its old walls. Now, it's here for you to write your own. There's no set itinerary, no rush to be anywhere, no need to explain why you're still in your bathrobe at noon. People love Hyll because it's a space to slow down.

What is there to do in the area?
We're surrounded by some of the most beautiful parts of the North Cotswolds, nearby you will find Broadway Tower, Hidcote Manor, Chipping Campden and Bourton-on-the-water.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
Breakfast at Hyll is generous, seasonal and rooted in Cotswold produce. Expect freshly baked pastries, eggs cooked to order, and ingredients sourced as locally as possible.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
Yes, we serve lunch and dinner with a focus on seasonal cooking. Our menus follow the land around us and is something to settle into rather than hurry through.
Locally, we're fortunate enough to be near some wonderful spots - The Howard Arms, The Wild Rabbit and The Ebrington Arms.

Which are your most popular room types, and why?
It's difficult to single out one room type as the most popular because each room at Hyll is entirely individual.
No two rooms are the same in layout, proportions or character. Some guests are drawn to garden views; others prefer cosy corners tucked under the eaves. Some want space to linger; others love the intimacy of a smaller room. What they all share is a sense of calm - natural materials, deeply comfortable beds, thoughtful details - but the personality of each space is distinct.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?
We welcome families who understand the Hyll pace. We can accommodate extra beds in selected rooms and suites - it's best to contact us directly so we can advise on the most suitable option.
We have board games scattered throughout the house, gardens to explore and plenty of space to roam.

What message would you like to give The Hotel Guru readers?
Come to Hyll to unmeasure your time. Let the morning stretch. To rediscover small pleasures. To remember how to sit still without apology.
