Best B&Bs in the Dordogne
The Dordogne is known for its sun-drenched fields and river-run forests, it’s the perfect backdrop for an outdoorsy break. But it’s equally known for its produce and cuisine, its vineyards, its historic towns and villages, and its elegant châteaux. So it’s also a fantastic choice for relaxed holiday that’s all about seeing picturesque sights. Which is probably why the best B&BS in the Dordogne are, broadly, split into two types: rural retreats, converted from old farmhouses, manors, or even château; and village treats, which are conversions closer to the Dordogne’s most interesting and beautiful centres. There are a number of excellent B&Bs in and around foodie favourite Sarlat, which is also known for hosting one of the largest Saturday markets in the Dordogne, and another collection around Domme, which is right on the river, and a great choice for outdoor activities. Montignac-Lascaux is the centre closest to the prehistoric caves of the Vézère Valley, and there are a number of beautiful B&Bs here, and in the valley itself. If you’re looking for a livelier centre, and better transport links, consider Bergerac and Périgueux, and Brantôme, which is known for its medieval architecture and beautifully preserved old town. If you’re traveling as a family there are plenty of suitable B&B options, but you might want to prioritise those with a pool.
