Best Family Hotels in the Dordogne
Sunny and beautiful, with a landscape ripe for adventures, and historic caves and historic towns and centres, the Dordogne is a fantastic choice for a family holiday. Canoe or kayak the river, tour the stunning châteaux, browse the numerous markets in medieval towns and centres, and eat very well with not a lot of money. But what about accommodation? This is a popular spot to camp, but if you’d rather sleep indoors there’s plenty of family friendly accommodation, from farmhouses and manor houses turned B&Bs, through to cheerful hotels with family suites and pools, and five star options or even grand château accommodation. There are plenty of great family friendly hotels in the Dordogne’s pretty towns and centres, but if you’re looking for a bit of space to run around, as well as a pool, you might like to look just outside of the larger centres. There are a good selection around Sarlat, which is well loved by foodies, and hosts one of the region’s largest Saturday markets; and another collection around lively Bergerac, and Domme, which is right on the river, and a great choice for outdoor activities. If the prehistoric caves of the Vézère Valley are on your ‘to-see’ list consider staying close to Montignac-Lascaux.
