Le Brittany in Roscoff is right on a sandy beach and it’s designed in a way to make the very most of its position and views. Part of the hotel has been converted from a traditional stone building, but there’s also an entirely new section, all glass and clean lines, where you’ll find many of the rooms, suites and apartments, and where there are huge floor to ceiling windows. The restaurant, in the older section of the building, has huge windows too, and a terrace, and serves gourmet seafood. There’s lots of space, elegant furnishings, and a pool.
La Palmeraie is a chic hotel within a stone's throw of La Baule's glorious beach. Well designed rooms are clean and contemporary with high ceilings, whitewashed walls, and polished wooden floors. The fabulous restaurant specialises in seafood and is worthy of a visit alone. Modern beach perfection.
L'Ocean is another contemporary beach stay in Le Croisic. Here, chic rooms are all white on white with minimalist furniture and luxurious bathrooms. However, the gourmet seafood restaurant, with floor to ceiling windows, is the real lure.

For a city break

Balthazar Hotel & Spa is a five star design hotel in an elegant Breton townhouse in Rennes. There are 53 rooms and suites arranged over four floors, and on top is a terrace overlooking the city. There’s also a subterranean wellness centre and a gourmet restaurant run by Michelin-starred chef, Michel Rostang. Ideal for a couples getaway.

For families

La Baule’s Hotel Barriere Le Royal offers a wonderful seafront spot. Excellent facilities include a kids club, a gym, a spa and both indoor and outdoor pools. There’s also a highly recommended restaurant. Aside from the location, this hotel makes the cut due to its sophisticated decor (classic and luxurious). The generous family suites make this ideal for families.
For families where the kids are four and above, the La Villa du Guern could be the perfect water-view family escape. This chic, contemporary five room villa is just back from the water of the Auray estuary and overlooks the Morbihan Gulf. In addition to the small number of rooms, there’s a fantastic outdoor infinity pool and a spa. Their restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday, but they do a fantastic picnic lunch every day. The family suites are large and comfortable, but they do restrict children under four.

For foodies

La Mare aux Oiseaux is a real foodie destination with 15 uniquely styled rooms and suites (some of which are on stilts over the water). The location, on the island of Fedrun in the beautiful National Park of Briere, really makes this property standout. An incredible setting for a fabulous Michelin starred meal.
Modern and elegant Saint-Gregoire’s Le Saison - Les Patios is an intimate five room property. The Michelin starred restaurant has garnered praise far and wide for its modern French cuisine. Futuristic both in design and gastronomy.

For a stately chateau

Chateau de la Villedubois offers an authentic Brittany experience in a 16th-century family estate. Stately interiors are peppered with family heirlooms while rooms are enormous and traditionally dressed. With mature gardens and even a 17th-century chapel, this is a grand rural stay.

For great value luxury

Le Castel Marie-Louise is a luxurious manor house in La Baule, with a sort of château-esque look, and the sort of traditionally luxurious interiors that include dark red carpets, striped drapes, pleated lamps and fussy wallpaper designs. There are 31 rooms and suites, the best have beautiful sea views and private terraces to enjoy them from. In summer you can dine outdoors, and the gourmet French restaurant itself has huge windows overlooking gardens and the water. This is a romantic hotel, but with family suites too, and the location is ideal for exploring. A good all-rounder.
Les Demeures de Marie is converted from an elegant mansion in the countryside just outside Rennes, this hotel is set amid large gardens, and has just five rooms and suites, which are all very private. The original part of the house has lots of charming features, with exposed stone walls and beams, and then there’s a modern kitchen with every creature comfort. A great choice for a well priced and intimate rural escape.
