And of course the Breton cuisine is ideal for kids — you can have three pancake meals a day! For a Seaside Escape

The Manoir de Kergrec'h is an elegant 17th century château, surrounded by woods and gardens, and just back from the coast outside Plougrescant. It has just 11 rooms in a range of sizes, including doubles, triples, quadruples and suites, all elegantly decorated to make the most of their original features. There’s no restaurant, but they serve a hearty breakfast in the salon.
L'Agapa is a contemporary five star hotel in a picturesque spot on the Brittany coast. This hotel makes the most of its position with lots of glass — floor-to-ceiling in many places — expansive terraces and landscaped gardens running towards the sea. There are 45 rooms and suites, all stylishly simple, with special details for families, like extra TV channels for kids, babysitting, activities and special menus.
The Grand Hotel des Bains is a charming and peaceful 36 room hotel in Locquirec, directly overlooking the calm blue basin of the Baie de Locquirec, where children are made very welcome. The spacious rooms are light and airy, the majority with revitalising sea views, but if that's not enough the hotel has an indoor pool, some fantastic spa treatments, a relaxed brasserie and restaurant, and you’re within a short walk of a number of sandy beaches.

For a Brittany Beach Break

More like a little village than a hotel, Belle-Île-en-Mer’s La Desirade is a collection of private-feeling holiday cottages arranged around a central pool and surrounded by gardens. Inside, the cottages feel beach-house-chic, with a nautical colour palette and large bathrooms. The facilities make this an appealing choice over an individual cottage booking — there’s a playground, spa and restaurant. And you’re only a short stroll from the beach.

For a Classic Seaside Holiday

Just minutes from the sand Belle-Île-en-Mer’s Hotel Le Cardinal is a well-priced, contemporary beach hotel, with 55 stylish rooms and suites, a pool with an ocean view and two restaurants. The majority of rooms have private balconies with water views, and the largest can accommodate up to six. The Cafe Bleu with its sunny terrace is perfect for lunch, and The Cardinal Restaurant offers more of a fine dining feel for the evenings.
L'Hotel de Carantec is a charming, slightly old fashioned seaside hotel with 12 simple sea-view rooms, a sun terrace and gardens, and a great French restaurant. This is an easy, comfortable choice for families, with lots of great seaside activities nearby and a relaxed, friendly feel.
Ti al Lannec is one of those charming, old fashioned hotels with magnificent clifftop views and beautiful gardens that meander down the to beach. With just 26 rooms and suites, it’s small enough to feel intimate, yet the facilities are excellent: there’s an indoor pool-with-a-view, a spa, an excellent restaurant and elegant surrounds. Children are welcome and can expect kids TV channels, special early restaurant service and baby-listening service so that parents can enjoy a relaxed evening too.

For Luxury

In a perfect seafront spot in La Baule, the Hotel Barriere Le Royal is a sophisticated choice with classic contemporary decor and sea views. The comfortable suites are the best fit for families, but there are other choices amongst the 87 rooms. There’s a pool indoor and out, and all sorts of watersports facilities, tennis courts, bike hire and a kids club. The sea view restaurant is really something.
The Hotel Barriere Le Grand is the grand dame of Dinard hotels, right on the water, and arranged so as to provide balconies and sea views for all. Renowned for its ‘unwinding’ abilities, this hotel has both two beautiful pools and a spa, and the kids club that will allow parents to enjoy these facilities. The family suites are elegant and well proportioned, and the restaurant manages to be both luxurious and family friendly — opt for the terrace if the weather allows.

For Larger Families and Groups

Le Lodge Kerisper is a small hotel with a range of accommodation options, including five family rooms (all of which sleep four people), and one self-catering family villa which sleeps ten. Here you have all the advantages of staying in a hotel: the bar, pool, tennis courts, and breakfast, but still the flexibility of room sizes. The decor is chic, a sort of country neutral, and most rooms have a private balcony or terrace. The location is peaceful and beautiful, just back from La Trinite-sur-Mer on the Quiberon Bay, minutes from the beach.

For Space

The Villa Tri Men isn’t on the beach, but it is right on the water, surrounded by leafy gardens, with a welcoming jetty and pontoon, and a feel of being a guest at a relaxed gathering rather than a hotel. There are 16 rooms, and several cottages, which are ideal for families. All of the interiors are decorated in a contemporary style in nautical colours, with wooden floors and lots of natural light. There’s also an elegant bar, lounge and library and an outstanding seafood restaurant.

For Foodies

Maison Tirel Guerin is an affordable 49 room hotel in a pretty village, with a surprise Michelin-starred restaurant serving exemplary regional cuisine — with an excellent kids’ menu! The decor is a little dated, but the location is peaceful, and the hotel is surrounded by gardens. There’s an indoor pool, tennis courts and a sauna and hot tub.

For a Rural Hideaway

Les Chaumieres de Kerimel is run by a young family, so they’ve done an especially good job anticipating the needs of families in their charmingly converted farmhouse hotel. There are just five rooms, all cosy and unfussy, with traditional beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and exposed stonework. The hosts make all their own food, and even brew their own beer, and they serve breakfast daily, and other meals regularly.

For Explorers

Castel Jolly is an inviting B&B in central Rennes, converted from a 19th century mansion. There are just four spacious, light guest rooms, decorated with antiques, books and fresh flowers from the property’s beautiful gardens. There’s no restaurant, but they offer breakfast.

For Great Value

La Vinotiere is a cleverly designed, nine room B&B converted from a 16th century merchant’s house in Finistere. The rooms aren’t large, but they’re well designed, with a preference for earthy tones and exposed stone, or a fresh, nautical palette. There are three rooms that we think families will particularly want to look at: the bunk room, the family suite and the family apartment. There’s also a bright breakfast and tea room with lively art on the walls and comfortable sofas in front of a modern open fireplace.
