20 Best Hotels in Burgundy with a Pool

Moulin Renaudiots

Burgundy’s beautiful landscape is the perfect backdrop for a rural retreat or escape to the countryside. And for our Hotel Gurus that means a hotel pool is essential to the itinerary. They argue a family trip to the region isn’t complete without an afternoon splash-about, between sightseeing and exploring in the morning and wine, and cuisine tasting in the evening! So we've put together a list of the best hotels in Burgundy with a pool, ranging from top-notch luxury stays to romantic hideaways and family friendly properties. Browse our collection and start planning...

For Château Luxury

Chateau Sainte Sabine

  • The Château Sainte Sabine is a proper palace of a château, complete with spires, ornate circular windows and ramparts, set on an eight hectare park on the banks of the Burgundy Canal between Beaune and Dijon. Now a luxurious, 22 room hotel, the château will please those who j’adore Versailles, but also those looking for contemporary comfort, because while the communal areas are grand and historic, many of the rooms are chic and contemporary. The restaurant specialises in local cuisine, and the views are idyllic.

For a Countryside Escape

Chateau de Saulon

  • The Château de Saulon is a graceful residence perfectly positioned within its own parklands, between Dijon and Beaune. During its conversion into a 32 room hotel many repairs were carried out, and beautiful contemporary bathrooms fitted, so now the traditional features are cosy and functional, and the rooms are simply and classically styled. The gourmet restaurant showcases the local cuisine.
  • The Moulin Renaudiots is a carefully reimagined country house where a contemporary take has been given to the original features to great effect: think exposed beam ceilings pared with polished concrete floors, and opened out spaces supported by antique pillars. There are four guest rooms, all unique, and an excellent table d’hote dinner.
  • The Château de Fleurville is a lovingly renovated medieval fortress. Set amid its own parklands, with vineyards and mountains in the distance, this is a memorable rural retreat. There are 15 rooms and suites, individually decorated with original features, plus both indoor and outdoor pools, and a restaurant specialising in regional cuisine.

For Vineyard Views

Chateau de Pierreclos

  • The Château de Pierreclos is a tall, strikingly austere looking château on its own working vineyard, with four gorgeous guest rooms that beautifully pair the château’s original features with contemporary colour schemes and minimalist aesthetic. There’s no restaurant, but there’s an incredible wine list, and they offer breakfast daily. The views are stunning and there's an outdoor heated pool for all to enjoy.
  • Castel de Tres Girard is a vineyard property turned eight room contemporary hotel. The rooms are decorated with confident wallpaper, contemporary pieces and simple linens, and many retain original features. The restaurant and bar champion local producers, who have fields you can see from the pool and terrace.
  • Ermitage de Corton is a classic country residence turned 12 room hotel, set amongst the vine rows in Chorey-les-Beaune. The decor is traditional, making the most of parquet flooring, exposed beams and stone, and ceilings high enough to accommodate chandeliers. The restaurant specialises in regional cuisine, and during warmer weather it spills out onto a shaded terrace. The pool is big and peaceful.

For Family Fun

Chateau de Besseuil

  • The Château de Besseuil is a grand and charming 16th century residence surrounded by vineyards, and now converted into a hotel with 20 rooms, suites and apartments. In addition to dividing up the mansion, and adding contemporary bathrooms, the hotel owners also added a lovely heated pool at the bottom of the expansive gardens. If you’re looking for space, there’s a suite or apartment to suit you — up to three bedrooms — and if you’re hoping for charming original features, like beamed ceilings, tiled floors and vast fireplaces, then there’s a room or suite to suit you too. The restaurant is gourmet but friendly, and there’s a cool bar.
  • La Cimentelle is a similarly stately country guesthouse, this time surrounded by rural parklands. La Cimentelle has nine rooms, each unique and designed to fit with the original building, plus a separate guest cottage with self catering facilities (ideal for families). The location is superb for sightseeing, and they have a communal dining restaurant, where they also run cooking classes.
  • Les Maritonnes Parc et Vignoble is a 23 room hotel in the tiny rural hamlet of Romanèche-Thorins, well positioned for exploring the Beaujolais and Mâconnais regions. The rooms are spacious and contemporary, and the family suites are large and well designed. The restaurant, specialising in local produce, spills out onto a sunny terrace when the weather allows, and there’s lots of space to run around.
  • Maison Tandem is a small and inviting family-run guesthouse in pretty Cluny. There are just four rooms, all spacious, with wooden floors, big windows and lots of light. Room Four has a balcony with a view over the garden and pool terrace. There’s an elegant lounge, breakfast room and kitchen, and plenty of places to eat and drink within a short stroll. The large rooms are suitable for families, plus the property has games, a playground and that outdoor pool with toys!

For a Relaxed Retreat

Vers La Croix

  • Vers La Croix is a charming country property just outside Mâcon, a rural, and picturesque area of Burgundy. There are just four guest rooms, decorated in a simple contemporary manner to emphasise the building’s traditional exposed beams and tiled floors. The pool and terrace are in the pretty gardens, and it’s adult only, so hopefully there’s no one to splash you!
  • Quaint and ivy-clad from the outside, on the inside La Borde shows its five stars, with five seriously beautiful rooms and suites and a conservatory restaurant with a menu that changes daily. There are tennis courts, a pool, complimentary bike hire, a sauna and wine tastings. And the grounds are idyllic.
  • The Auberge du Paradis is a charming country house hotel surrounded by vineyards and flower meadows outside Mâcon. Inside are nine rooms, all unique, and decorated in a contemporary style, but in sympathy with the original features, plus an innovative restaurant known for its unusual spices. Outside is the pool, terrace and gardens. Great for wine tastings too.
  • La Cour Berbisey is a luxury five room guesthouse converted from an historic property in Dijon. The sophisticated decor makes the most of the original features, but livens them up with designer furniture pieces in amongst the antiques. The suites are all huge, there's a fabulous indoor pool and you’re surrounded by great places to eat and drink.

For Romantics

Le Clos du Colombier

  • Set amongst rolling vineyards, Le Clos du Colombier is beautiful period property, delightfully converted into a 12 room hotel. Simple and elegant, the decor makes wonderful use of original features like parquet flooring, marble fireplaces, exposed beams and huge windows. The restaurant, which specialises in local cuisine, has a terrace overlooking the vines, and the hotel has an outdoor pool, sauna and hot tub, plus facilities for families, like babysitting, kids’ menus and expansive family suites.
  • The Château de Pizay is a romantic château estate surrounded by formal gardens and grape vines destined to fill Beaujolais bottles. This property is one of the largest on this list, with 62 rooms and suites, and everything to go with them, from a huge spa menu to a Michelin recommended gourmet restaurant, and an outdoor pool overlooking the vines. They have a wedding license, if you’re feeling that romantic, and vast, luxurious suites with four-poster beds.

For a Spa Break

Chateau de Courban et Spa

  • Château de Courban et Spa is an elegant rural residence with 25 rooms and suites, gourmet restaurant and an excellent spa. The rooms and suites have been carefully decorated in a range of styles, from chic contemporary to traditional French toile du joie. Our favourite rooms overlook the lush gardens and grounds, where you'll find two outdoor pools. The restaurant has a Michelin star, and the spa has an impressive treatment menu, plus a sauna, Turkish baths and a hot tub.

For Foodies

Hotel de la Poste

  • The Hotel de la Poste is a chic choice in Charolles, minutes from Beaune, and central Burgundy. The Michelin-starred restaurant is arguably the main feature, but the 36 rooms and suites above it are elegant and contemporary, featuring some of the building’s original features, like exposed beams and dormer windows. The hotel has a courtyard with a pool, hot tub and gardens. The hotel kitchen runs cooking classes.

For Great Value

Hostellerie de la Tour dAuxois

  • The Hostellerie de la Tour d'Auxois is a charming and affordable choice in Saulieu — a pretty town known for its great markets, and close to the beauty of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. The historic exterior is quaint, but inside the hotel it feels more spacious, and the original features, like terracotta tiled floors and exposed beams, are cosy, but unfussy. The restaurant champions the best in local produce, and a fantastic selection of local wines too.
