For Families

• Hotel Cappella is a charmingly traditional chalet with a long history of offering families a warm and cosy welcome. There’s a great range of rooms and suites, including family-sized options, and some more romantic picks complete with four-poster beds and private balconies. • La Perla is the classic Italian chalet, complete with a white and wood facade, and wonderfully wood-clad interiors. If you’re a sucker for traditional charm, then there’s a high chance you’ll fall for these exposed beams, four-poster beds and hand-painted murals. There are 52 rooms and suites in a wide range of shapes and sizes, plus a fabulous Ayurvedic spa, a Michelin starred restaurant, and one of the most impressive wine cellars in the area. • A family-run boutique hotel with a playful alpine feel, Hotel La Majun pairs pine furnishings and Art Deco accents with contemporary artwork and striking mountain views. After a day on the slopes or trails, head for the indoor pool, Finnish sauna and salt steam bath. The restaurant serves Ladin specialities, including homemade Schlutzkrapfen pasta.
• Marmolada Dolomites Lifestyle Hotel- This characterful family-run hotel stands out for its large alpine-style rooms, excellent wellness facilities and a 900 label wine cellar curated by owner and sommelier Iwan Costamoling. There’s an indoor vitality pool, several saunas and a steam room, plus a basement museum featuring a 40,000 year old bear fossil discovered by the family.

• Hotel Sassongher is another chalet charmer, with more wood-cladding, ceilings and furniture, and cosy, chintzy fabrics. • The Col Alto is a spacious, great-value chalet with wood-clad details, sloping roofs and inviting balconies, but simple interiors. There’s a cosy restaurant, an indoor pool beneath a skylight and fireside seating, plus an extensive spa with saunas, steam baths, hot tubs and an ice plunge. Live music on some evenings makes it a good choice for both couples and families.

Travel Information

• Corvara and the Southern Tyrol are within a square of international airports: Milan Bergamo Airport, Verona Villafranca Airport, Venice’s Marco Polo Airport, and Innsbruck Airport. Innsbruck is an hour and three quarters by road, and close to four hours by bus; Venice is about two hours by car, or four by bus; Verona is about two and a half hours by car, and four or five hours by public transport; and Milan is about three hours away by road, or six hours by bus. There are also numerous rail hubs in the neighbourhood.

• If you’re planning to take part in winter sports, Corvara's ski season usually runs between early December and early April. Around half of the Corvara’s pistes are covered by snow-making facilities, so the snowy season is stretched out, but the snowiest months tend to be January and February, and there’s often good snow into March.
• Corvara’s summer season, when the mountain bikers, climbers and hikers replace the skiers, runs between June and October, with the ski lifts and cable cars generally run between mid-June and mid-October. Visiting when the lifts are running makes it much easier to walk the alpine plateaus of the Alta Badia region. Corvara’s wellness centres will cater for other people looking for a more relaxing experience of the Dolomites.
