1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is an impressive address, right beside the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade, and overlooking the water and the grassy banks of park. There are almost two hundred rooms and suites, with huge windows and contemporary decor that draws on trends for industrial fittings and lots of wood. And the views are really something.
The Standard is tall, thin and covered in windows, so you have views from every room — even from the comfort of your bath. The decor is chic, and a bit edgy to suit the neighbourhood, and the bar and restaurant are places to be seen in, as well as to enjoy hip all-American food. The 18th floor lounge has 360 degree views, and becomes a nightclub after 9pm.

For a Special Occasion

The Lowell Hotel is a charmingly crafted Upper East Side Hotel, just a block to the east of Central Park. The decor is very classical, think marble bathrooms, neutral tones, elegant furnishings and art and even proper wood-burning fireplaces. The location is residential, a quiet, tree-lined street off Madison Avenue, and the overall feel is of staying in a gorgeous, 70 room townhouse. Book this one for an intimate stay, understated elegance and a sophisticated romantic vibe.
The Baccarat Hotel is a deliberately swanky pick just off Fifth Avenue, close to MoMA and the Rockefeller Center. The Baccarat’s decor is fancy, with oversized chandeliers and plenty of glass cases, white leather and red velvet, but it feels super stylish with it. The 114 rooms and suites are decorated in white, with clean lines, elegant details and indulgent marble bathrooms. The restaurant is fine dining, the cocktail bar hip and there’s an impressive pool and spa.

For Luxury Lovers

The Peninsula New York is right on Fifth Avenue, and offers the kind of old fashioned elegance that inhabits that sweet spot of unfussy luxury — where you feel perfectly looked after, but not embarrassed about how you might go about asking after another cookie. Complete with a spa and pool, super special New York restaurant, and trendy roof terrace bar. Romance for the well-heeled!
Overlooking Central Park, The Pierre is elegant and desirable, and while its 700+ rooms and suites make it too big to be a proper bolt-hole, the feeling of cosseting and seclusion is ever present. The decor matches the Neoclassical facade, and features pastel shades and just the right number of antiques. The hotel restaurant, Perrine, is well known and award-winning.

For an Intimate Choice

The Hotel Elysee once hosted Manhattan’s literary elite — most famously Tennessee Williams, who spent his final years living here. It’s classy, elegant and intimate, the suites feature French style furnishings, rich fabrics and plush carpets and the Monkey Bar has become one of Midtown's most iconic and hip bars.
The Akwaaba Mansion is an elegant 1860 landmark mansion turned four suite B&B. The building’s original features are a huge draw — think ornate marble fireplaces, fancy plasterwork, chandeliers and beautiful parquet. The bathrooms are grand, but totally up-to-date, with whirlpool tubs for added opulence, and breakfast is served in the wood-panelled dining room. The Brooklyn location isn’t super central, but it is central for Brooklyn.

For Design Lovers

The SoHo Grand Hotel is in lively, fashionable SoHo, and is a sumptuous, elegantly designed 353 room hotel — think the Gilded Age of the 1870s meets the lux. fashion of the 1970s! Perfect for your average ultra-chic New Yorker, with the original artworks, the stylish bar, sophisticated club and acclaimed restaurant.
The Maritime Hotel has really taken the nautical theme and run with it throughout its 125 cabin-style rooms and suites, its library, lounge, its pool, cafe, bar and both restaurants, and all the way out its porthole shaped windows overlooking the Hudson River. And they have a 10,000 square foot terrace.
11 Howard is an effortlessly cool hotel in SoHo, with Scandi styled interiors, Danish-looking wood furniture, and original artworks. The restaurant is a French affair with a Michelin star, and the hotel bar turns into a club after 9pm. Ideal if you're looking for a romantic soirée!

For a Top Spot

The 28 room Merrion Row Hotel & Public House enjoys an incredible spot in Times Square. The decor is stylishly unfussy, drawing on a Dublin townhouse, apparently, and featuring wood floors, pastel walls, masculine looking beds, art inspired by Ireland, and a touch of velvet. The restaurant and bar are both top spots for pre-theatre dining and post-sightseeing relaxation.

For All the Bells and Whistles

The Chatwal on 44th Street was built in 1905, an Art Deco darling that has retained its charms, and stills feels fresh with it. Today the elegant rooms and suites — there are 76 — benefit from chic, understated decor, which is nonetheless unique and Art Deco inspired, and the communal areas are simply stunning. The restaurant, The Lambs Club, is an historic culinary landmark, and the bar is delightfully decadent. The very best rooms are the 14 themed suites, which is where you’ll see some of the most beautiful original Art Deco details, but this hotel has personal butlers for all, and the personalised service will leave you feeling seriously spoiled.
The Carlyle is a luxurious, Upper East Side landmark, with timelessly classical decor and incredible views over Central Park. There are 190 rooms and suites, the best with both incredible views and grand pianos; the restaurant and bar are extremely charming and desirable places to be. The whole experience is a huge pleasure.

For City Style

The Crosby Street Hotel is a beautiful SoHo hotel with chic interiors by Kit Kemp, which attracts celebrities and design fans alike. There are 86 rooms and suites, with large windows, comfy beds, impeccable lighting, and well appointed bathrooms. There’s also a relaxed guests’ drawing room with an honesty bar, and a residents’ terrace too. The dining room and bar are popular with locals, and the hotel has a 160 seat private cinema with regular Sunday screenings.
Mr C Seaport is on Seaport Street, close to Wall Street and the Brooklyn Bridge, and it somehow manages to feel both fresh and classic at the same time, and both glamorous and minimal. The decor has a mid-century modern glamour which still feels stylish, and European — but for the skyline views though large windows in the 66 rooms and suites. The terraces and rustic Italian restaurant complete the picture.

The Mark is an old favourite of the Upper East Side, with an award-winning restaurant and Neo Deco decor that feels elegant but contemporary. This is the haunt of celebrities and New York royalty, and is the sort of place many of us dream of visiting just once or twice. You’ll remember it forever.

The Hoxton Williamsburg is the first of the British boutique Hoxton brand hotels to arrive in New York, and its in trendy Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Occupying a former watch factory, the 174 room hotel is able to stay beautifully true to the building, while also epitomising the brand’s industrial lux. decor.
