About Haute-Savoie

A pretty alpine slither of France, set between Switzerland and Italy, Haute-Savoie is a charming lake or mountain holiday destination. Visitors from within France and elsewhere have long flocked to lakeside Annecy for idyllic lakeside summers, and to the trendy mountain towns of Chamonix, Morzine, Megève and others for superb skiing and adventure sports. Accommodation options include pretty chalets as well as luxurious waterfront hotels, fit for a whole host of tastes and budgets. Many of the best places to stay in Haute-Savoie are also known for their fabulous cuisine: foodies will find themselves spoilt for choice.

If you’re dreaming of lazy lakeside days of swimming, kayaking, boating and fishing, look to Annecy, Talloires or Evian-les-Bains. On the shores of Lake Geneva — also known as Lac Léman — Evian is just moments from the Swiss border, allowing travellers to experience both countries. Keen skiers, snowboarders, hikers and mountain bikers should make for the hills. Expect stunning views of Mont Blanc from Chamonix, Argentière and Megève, as well as fabulous skiing in the Grand Massif region around Flaine, Les Carroz and Samoëns.

The Haute-Savoie region is famous for its distinctive culture, which you’ll notice in its architecture, food and wine. Tuck in to delectable fare in buzzy bars and eateries, and enjoy a fantastic après-ski vibe before retreating to one of the best places to stay in Haute-Savoie. These spots fill up particularly fast during the winter months; book your trip well in advance.
